Stock Times on the 2.2

Well i just got back from the races and I got some good news. On Friday I was at St. Thomas Dragway in Ontatio and I decided to put my Pursuit up to the paces. It ran a 16.78 with a home made intake using the stock plenum on the TB and the using a Cone filter with the top of the box removed and the MAP sensor disconected (no place to put it). Right so on Saturday morning i went to all the wreckers in my area and was looking for any Cobalts or Pursuits that had the stock intakes still in so i could make a custom home made pipe that had a place for the MAP. Well I would now like to personaly thank a 88 SAAB 900 Turbo for doing just that. The lower intake duct is A long flexable piece that made it from the TB to the box. I cut a slot for the MAP and away i went. Took it to the track again that night and to my amazment ran a 16.05! . Im convinced that with some cleaning up of the trunk and racing with a quarter tank of gas i can get into 15.9. BTW i was running with Sunoco Ultra 94 and Lucas Octane Booster. Works out to roughly 100 points of octane. SORRY FOR THE LENGTH IT HAD TO BE TOLD!

no problem with length but paragraphs make it easy to read

Perhaps your mod wasn't worth a full 0.7 but your drving got better?

Just a word of Advice. If you were running 94 octane you were making your car slower than it's full potential.

Also the Octane "booster" you speak of is a total rip off. It doesn't actually give you 8 points of octane. It gives you 0.8. So in truth you were running 94.8 octane.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but it's better that you know this.

Go back to the track, run 89 octane, no booster and 1/4 tank of gas.

Trust me you'll be very surprised.

Also i just remebered. When i ran the 16.0 ( I was getting faster each run then hit a wall) I decided to remove the passenger headlight and expose the filter to outside air. It gave me a 10th (running the flat 16 insted of being stuck at 16.1 16.2)

Thats a good mod. That will help for sure with times. But just keep in mind what I stated.

as for the 94 reply. Ive ran the car at the track on 89. I was running 16.8 all night and it was cold out. And the octane booster isn't the .8 garbage like the NOS stuff. Lucas doesn't use MMT they use someother chemical that goes up in full points.

Octane is the burn rate of gasoline. By upping the octane, you make your fuel harder to burn. The 2.2 PCM is not programmed to take advantage of higher octane fuel.

There are a few reasons why you ran faster. High octane gas isn't one of them.

ok if you would of read avro....he said he had the map sensor disconnected on the 16.7 so first of the car would of ran like totally crap......they are right though 06 the pcm on the 2.2 is regulated for the lower grade gas ...atleast for now anyways until someone cracks it

Like I said, you don't have to listen to me but I've done this before with my Alero. I'm talking from personal experience.

I took it to the track with 1/2 a tank of 94, and a full intake.

I ran 16.2-3 all night.

The next time I went I ran 87 octane. 1/4 tank and took out my spare tire.

That night my fastest time was a 15.72 at 91 MPH.

After a few more mods concerning weight I was able to crack off a 15.01 at 93MPH the next weekend.

I'm telling you from experience. DON'T USE 94 OCTANE IN A STOCK ENGINE.

This is kinda annoying for me to keep seeing you post the MAP sensor instead of the MAF senosr, two totally differently sensors. You mean the MAF sensor because your car prolly wouldnt run without your MAP sensor bro, just a heads-up...

This is part of the reason why you had such a shitty time... you SHOULD NOT be using anything higher than mid-grade gas at best, and regular is fine... anything more and you're wasting your money, and also hurting your performance.

You dont have enought compression ans you dont have boost so using 94 gaz is like spending cash for a tornado.Higher octane is made to prevent detonation on high compression engine and turbo or supercharged engine.

I'd give my stock times... but I don't feel like being asked a hundred times why I went down the track in reverse...
