supercharger
So, anyone put a supercharger on their 2.2 yet? I would have got one in the first place but they were in high demand and couldnt get one for a few months, and i got a hell of a deal on my balt $9000 bucks for a $19000 LS brand new! So anyway i want a supercharger or maybe a turbo. Are there any kits, how much do they cost and how much to install???

I'm going turbo, more power can be made from them. Hahn racing makes some nice turbo kits for our cars. as for S/C, there were rumors that gm was releasing a retrofit kit to fint the SS blower on the 2.2L but like i said, just a rumor

just a rumor eh?
BTW Friar, there's no H in Ecotec. Sorry, that just really bugs me, like when people add an H to Vtec.

No, actually it wont fit. The 2002-2005 cavaliers and sunfires that are equipped with the ecotec engine are setup for the fuel managament system called speed density, its where it uses a pre-set fuel trim data and the MAP sensor, and the throttle to give the car fuel, where as our cobalts are mass-air flowed. So, you'd have to do some custom work to make the kit work with the pcm.

while it might fit since bolt pattern is still the same, as dnbguy stated the cobalts meter airflow via a MAF over the speed density system with a MAP. my apologies, I had that bookmark since the 03 and 04 Ions, such as mine, all are speed density, but the 05-06's are all the same as the Cobalts.
however, if you look in the current Ecotec Performance Build Book (black cover) that I'm sure most of you guys are familiar with, the first or second section shows the install of an LSJ intake manifold/aftercooler, blower, pulley system, and so forth for the entire working assembly, as well as the flash code number at the end of the install walkthrough to utilize the proper tuning. and yes, this install was for those with a MAF, and I want to also say the throttle by wire system that you guys have, though I may be mistaken.
point being, it's possible, and I know I've seen the actual GMPP part number for the full kit.
there is also a company named SpeedMafia which utilizes Procharger C-1 and C-2 units in their kits. the owner is someone I know pretty well, and I'm sure he'd work with any of you guys to make the kit work on a Cobalt.

whether you throw a blower or turbo on an engine and have no idea what you're doing, don't expect it to last long if at all.

That's where I ordered my GM Supercharger for my Z24 from. Paceparts is a great place to deal with! The reflash will have a different part number for automatics. That kit is intercooled too (Z24 supercharger wasn't). If I had a 2.2, that's the way I'd go.

the reason it is listed to 05 only is because it will not fit the cobalt without modification. i think there was some mention of it in the build book somewhere. not a deal breaker though, it wasnt a major mod to fix. i may get my hands on one this summer so i can let you know of any issues.

What does it take for the supercharger to increased from 145 to 200 to 250??? Where do you get the 250 hp from....? What are the extras mods added for the supercharger....?
