Supercharger for 2.2L

Hi this is my first post.. I was just wondering if anyoone knew if there was a supercharger for the cobalt 2.2L, or if there is one in the makeing. I saw the article on using the 2.0L supercharger, but it sounds a little difficult, so i wanted to know if there was one made specially for the 2.2L. I know there are turbochargers, but I prefer the supercharger. (the firebird with RAMAIR and supercharger was always fun to drive).

Cobalt only car under 15,000 that I like.

This has been discussed before. Please see RSM Supercharger

Next time please attempt a search before posting. It's located on the top right below your private messages box.

For the amount that you would spend on a kit alone (not including the installation) it would be more feasable for you to just buy an SS/SC in the first place, wouldn't you think?

15,000+3,500 to 4,799= 18,500 or 19,799

Add install charge+ 1,500 to 2,500?

You've just invested as much money as an SS/SC would be.

That's true that you would be spending probably more in the long run with probably less HP (estimated gain with the GM kit is somewhere in the ballpark of 40hp) than if you were to buy the SS/SC in the first place. It is however a nice option for those that didn't want the SS/SC in the first place for whatever reason but would still like to add additional HP to their 2.2L and personalize it a bit .

As others have said, just do a search you'll turn up a load of threads not only about the RSM S/C kit but the up and coming (apparently) GM one as well. I would imagine you'll begin to see more popping up after SEMA so keep your eyes peeled .

Truth Be told, you can't argue with math on this one.

Even though it says that there are no internal changes when adding the supercharger, expect your motor/Clutch/Tranny to have it's life cut short by adding induction, because it wasn't built for the abuse... if that is the case, you may be finding you'll be spending alot more than just under $21,000!

That was his point in buying it dork. He can do all aftermarket mods without worrying about having already paid for a stock option.

That's a little harsh, but for sure its to each his own... I can tell you that I'd probably go that way to build a racecar, less options= less weight.

For the SS S/C you also get the performance suspension, Sound system, and the leather seats.

On the other hand you can insure for a base and get the S/C giving you a cheaper rate than the SS. Plus if you only plan on doing drags then the performance suspension means nothing.

the performance suspension can also be replaced

I got my Ion for 16K and if I put enough work into it to match the price of the RL you better believe it will run better than a 14.7.

Oh please, if I can't call a guy a dork and not have him get all bent outta shape, then this world has just plain gotten to wound up for me. Now if I called him a dumb ass MF'er, then that would have been harsh. But dork? Hell, I'm a dork at least 3 times a day!

Ok, here's my math.....base model 4 door....11,900....supercharger...3500, smaller pulley 100, intake 200, insurance for a base model as opposed to SC model, ...install myself....1/2 pack cigarettes and a couple of pops during the install process.....price of my base 4 door sleeper smoking your 20k+ coupe....priceless.....

yup. I bought my sunburst orange 2 dr base model for 13 adding spolier and tent. Replaced cd player with alpine, sony speakers, pair of 12s, added after market keyless entry and will soon add aftermarket power windows all for well under $1000. Total price, under $14000. Only thing missing is sunroof and 200+ plus horses. but if feel like i need em, ill drive my SAAB. which doesnt use premium fuel. I feel good about my purchase.

My SS/SC is insured at the same rate as a N/A cobalt, so there goes that arguement....at least for me. And I highly doubt you would "smoke" an SS with those mods. You may beat it, but smoking it would be a little harder.

damn to get a ss model at the n/a model is good...u must be a older person or really good in with the insurance company...ok first off the cobalt ss is pushing around 240hp to the crank and about what 195 torque?...base 2.2 145hp and 155 tor.....ok lets add the s/c in here 2800.00 from gm...5-6psi so thats around 50-60hp gain roughly, add a injen intake 199.00 around 10hp,dcsports catback exhaust 415.00 +10hp,add in the gm cams 659.00 +roughtly 20hp....ok that is basic mods except a header...but lets add this up.....base sedan is around 14000 power 145
2800 50
199 10
415 10
659 20
= 18083 235hp and more torque than the ss

if im looking at this right it is well over 2k cheaper than the ss....with almost the same power...just my .02

Hopefully it won't escalate to the idiocy in the other thread.

It's a stupid argument to make.

ANY car can be made fast.

You'll only prove you spent less money doing it, which some people could care less about.

My thoughts exactly...this argument is getting old now.

As for spending less, with my LS being loaded minus OnStar and side-curtain my price tag in CAD came to $27,500 after taxes. Add the $3500 or so (attempting to convert to CAD ) price tag of the S/C + installation if that's not included in the price (so ~$600) I'm actually paying the same if not more for my LS with slightly less HP than the SS/SC. I figure whatever makes you happy is well worth the money...I wouldn't lose sleep over it...but then again I'm not really concerned with beating car X at speed Y .
