OK, that is a little better. So you want to take my $50 bet??? Come on, the thread is called taking bets. I will even drive out there to pick up my money when I win!!! Maybe I should tell you I am coming out there anyway the first of next year to visit family, I grew up in Lewisville, so you dont think I am crazy enough to drive over 1200 miles just for $50.

True and if it was any ordinary vendor I wouldn't do it, but I've worked with rebel performance before, they only deal with the most reputable vendors, I trust rebel, they trust nelson, so I trust nelson. Like I said I'm going to be calling them again tomorrow for more details about my tuning. So gimme some GOOD questions to ask!

wow I just looked up that hyper voltage thing. Good luck wasting your money on that load of bs
As far as the engine/tranny tuning, are you sending him your pcm or your bcm? The pcm is under the hood and the bcm, your main control module, is in your dash under your radio. I don't remember where the tcm is located.
Also ask him if he can modify fluid pressures between shifts in the tcm. basically all you're looking for is a/f and possibly some spark tuning for max eff. with your mods. Shouldn't be too hard if he has the right interface.
That's what I'm trying to figure out if he can modify. Something tells me that he's just talking about setting shift points and the adaptive strategies won't be changed.

I know, I was just making a joke. I really do not expect him to take the bet. I bet he is pissed off at me for thinking his car will only make around 160hp, but that is just my opinion. I have been moding cars a long time, and I think he may just be suprised. I am simply taking part in a public pole that he submited.

If your talking about Nelson racing . . . like the engine buiders, they're sick with engines.

i dont mean to jack this thread but take a look at what this company does with engines even though it has nothing to do with a cobalt

Good deal bro, I should look up some of you Dallas cobalts when I am in town the first of next year. Is that pick in your sig from a local meet? Maybe you can schedule a meet for the first of next year, it would be cool to meet some out of town balters!!!

No more than 150ish to the wheels IF YOU ARE LUCKY...which puts you up to a stock 2.4
Combined, I/H/ and a catback exhaust are good for about 15 HP over stock.
Add a downpipe and high flow cat
I don't know aything about this ignition system and I thought there wasn't tuning yet for the 2.2 unless you use a piggy back system...but in all seriousness I can't see you gaining 40+whp from simple bolt-ons and a tune...just my opinion, but you should do a baseline dyno and a aferwards dyno to show your gains. We all know how peope can make a dyno look friendly.
Good luck

Agreed. 150-155whp would be more realistic
That made me LOL.
I know they've got a good reputation, but I'm one that'll believe it when I see it. If I was sitting there with a 2.2, I would certainly not be banking on someone miraculously flashing my ECM or TCM.
Still looooooooove to know what mystery program they're using to tune since, well, no one can do a computer tune.
From your standpoint, I would be asking what tuning software they're using. More importantly, you're getting a canned tune. Which is FAR inferior to a dyno tune. Ask them what mods they're tuning for and where they're getting their numbers from. If you're getting a tune from a mechanically stock 2.2 and putting on I/H/E......you're not getting the most out of it.
Also, just as a side note, I REALLY hope you're planning on purchasing and installing a wideband before you get the "retuned" computers back in the car. Messing with a/f is dangerous, dangerous business without one. DOUBLY so on a canned tune. Their tune comes from 1400 miles away from likely a different elevation and a different climate. What may be safe for them might not be safe for you and that might change throughout the year. Take a tune from Texas and put it on a car in Pennsylvania for example and you could very well end up saying to your engine. ALSO, you have ONE option and ONE option only for tuning, unless you go piggy back, but then what's the point of sending it off to get tuned. What happens when your a/f is off or you notice a problem with the tune? What happens when you make further modifications to the car and now may need some fine tuning? You're stuck with a car that's largely untunable....you can't run to the local shop or have a buddy drop by and fix it.
I think that's a pretty safe estimation.
That made me LOL.
Dude I know I was on the same boat, I told them over and over that there isn't any, but they kept saying there was, they have an automatic transmission tune for the 2005-06 cobalts, they change the shift points by reflashing the tranny computer. I didn't get the details about the ecu/ecm reflash but when I asked if they could remove the govenor and change a/f ratio they said yes. I'm going to get full details tomorrow when I call em back.

Like i said earlier, once you buy one tune from them, you get free retunes for life And thanks for pointing that stuff out, i'll be sure to ask them that

Stock 2.2 Cobalt is 125-126 WHP
I'm getting 152.2 WHP but that's with the hood open during a dyno run
With the hood closed I say I'm getting no more that 146 WHP max
My mods are mostly bolt on
GMPP SRI with AEM Dryflow Filter
2.4 intake Manifold Kit
LSJ Exh. Manifold
LSJ Downpipe
GMPP Touring Catback
Next Mod: RK Sport Ram Air Hood

holy thread revival!!
anyway I'm kinda curious how his tune went. How much money did you waste? Or did they just come to their senses and tell you they can't do it?
