Question There has to be a way to get arround this.

I was racing my friend down the highway late last night when i hit the speed limiter in 4th gear. What is taht all about? Its obvious that my car as a lot more speed left in it than gm wants me/us to know about, so any way what can ido to change where the speed limiter kickis in at?

I think it has to do with what your tires are rated at when they come from the factory. Your car may have more power, but the govenor prevents it from going any faster because your tires aren't rated to go that fast and it isn't safe. Or I might be totally wrong...haha.

yeah the limmiter is there for a good reason, we don't have H-rated tires on the base balts. So going at that speed well you could just spin the tread off your tires . It sux I know, so this is what you do, get new tires and then see if your dealer will be able to reflash your ecu to the new speed rating of your tires. I have heard rumors but that is it

^^Or, and this is a more expensive option.

You could upgrade your tires, then get HPtuners and remove the cut-off completely

It may be more costly, but if you plan on doing a lot of modding to your balt HPtuners is awesome,,, you can raise the rev limiter, shift points if you're an auto etc etc

So what are our tires rated it?

I'm gonna be getting some new rims with H rated tires, and thos would be my summer ones, and my stockers (Alum/5spoke, I have the 2LT package with Michelins) for winter, so I guess I don't need to have my comp reflashed for winter, cause racing or even going fast when it's winter is stupid!

So i guess my question is irrelavent, since I'll only be using the H rated tires when it's summer here in MN. But if someone did answer it, it would be nice.

Ok, I see ImportKiller with the very bas balt (Am I correct?) so what does the 2LT have? (I know they are pretty much the same, since they are both technically "base" cobalts, except I have the upgraded package. Sorry if I repeated anything in this post than last post, I just wanna make sure that I can put the stock tires back on in winter, after I have my comp reflashed.

I've said it in many threads but I'll say it again. IT DOESN'T MATTER ABOUT THE TIRES THAT CAME ON THE CAR!

My car came with continentals and I don't have a limiter. I've had my car up to 198km/h which is around 122 mph.

It depends on when and where the car was made.

The dealers don't have a reflash yet. GM techline says that more will be out soon but total diameter across wheels and tires has to be one that was a dealer option size and that the reflash will not be able to raise speed cutoffs.

ok, the tires that are coming with mine (if I order them) are 205/60/16 and mine right now are 205/55/16.

Would they be able to reflash that sumbytch?

You are not going to get that limiter removed on a US sold L61 equipped Cobalt. GM won't do it. HP Tuners software can do it, but as mentioned above, they do not yet support the ECM. They will, but not yet. So you are going to have to be patient. If you got the 1SB option package with the 16"wheels (like me), they you don't have the 105MPH limiter.

Because you are in Canada. As I said, a "US" sold car has it.
