one big question???? what is the point of get rid of the gov anyways? very very few people have a 05-06 model balt with the 2.2 with enough mods to go over the gov in the 1/4 or any other race that you could get in street or track.. im not hatin cuz i have took mine to the gov and thats 127 on mine.. and yes i have a 2.2.. and as far as factory goes they arent all that slow but when the fuel cuts back over 100 then it takes em forever to get up there..

I had a beautiful opportunity to let my car open up on the highway this past fall, there's a great stretch of I-90W between exits 10 and 9, where you come down into a valley and back up the other side, has to be a 3-4 mile straight with no less than 2 miles visibility. Anyway, I was already cruising at a good 90 because there was no traffic. When I came to the top of this valley I saw NO ONE in either direction of travel, probably because it was like 03:00. I just rolled on the power until the needle stopped, which was right around 130-131. Some degree of that I'm sure is speedometer error but I've read the 1SS is limited to 131. Rather depressing, as it was only at ~4800 RPM in fifth. I figure the car is capable of well over 150, just need better tires/suspension/brakes and maybe some additional downforce.

I don't beleve that any 2.2s or 2.4s are capable of 150 MPH, thats around the top speed of the supercharged cobalts. You would need a big HP bump to get to that. (Big shot of nitrus, turbo/super) And if you have more downforce, you create more drag, which would reduce your top speed.

Also, if you were coming into a valley, gravity helped you out a little bit, so you can't do 130 on a flat road.

What are your mods, then maybe I can believe you....

Nevermind

All other info::
GMPP CAI, Honed Manifold, Performance Cat-Back

Must have not been a very steep valley

Probably a 20% grade, so far from level. It got to speed no problem and kept it going up the hill until I lifted. It's quite capable of going considerably faster, of that there is no doubt. Perhaps not 150 as it sits right now, but damn close I'll bet.

Maybe 140 at most, I looked around on the 2.0 fourm and several claimed top speed for stock SC around 150-155 MPH, with stage 2 being 160 MPH. So if you can get 200 WHP you have a chance. My guess for you would be around 135-140 MPH max with your mods, and its gona take a long time to get there.

Man, you're hating. I'm guestimating nearly 200 horse at the crank right now, so why would it take so long to get to a top speed which I obviously have no problem reaching now?

QFT
I've hit 130-135 numerous times on a closed road (no hills, road is dead flat)

The car pulled very well until 120, it took awhile to get to 135ish, it does have more power to give, but it took damn near 3/4 mile to get to 135, this car STOCK could hit 140-145, add lsj parts and a good rim/tire combo, and you'd be able to 145 without a problem, if you have that much room

I remember being a kid and thinking cars were only about Top Speed...how innocent I was

Moral of the story, even the LT is capped by GM for good reasons, the 2.2 has a bit more room. If you were cheap and bought a LS, tough. Wait another 6months to a year or longer for tuning (hopefully very soon) and then remove your govenor and go do 150 on a busy highway :P

thats the point..if you're going 150 on a public road, you're better off killing yourself since it would take nearly 1 mile of open road to get that high.

He is "guestimating" at the crank not WHP, and he's a 2.4L

This is true, but his info shows he has a 2.4, so he is in the wrong section anyway. Stock is 175 HP so he could be 200 HP (slim chance) at the crank, so that puts 170 WHP max.

Yes it is stupid and I hope that whoever tries it doesn't die or kill someone else. These cars are not designed to protect the occupants in a crash at that kind of speed. We don't have roll cages.

It this thing that governs how stuff works in the world, its called Physics.

Would you please add you model and mods to your sig. It makes everything easier.
