tunning Qs. from yellowshowbalt
i have the smt7 wired up the car runs. its not great at all evey thing is set to 0. every time i try to change the map voltage or timming the car. flips out back fires, eratic idleing then dies but it starts right up.
on another note . both my os's are fouled out. do you think the ecm is making it harder on the tunning becouse of the no activity. back to the ecm.? meaning the car is all ready running like a snail. and with out the o2 telling the ecm its panicing?? any theries or sudjestions would be considerd

How do you think the car stays in closed loop? It takes the signal from the o2 sensor and adjusts fuel that way. thats how the SMT's can tune closed loop. Make sure in the Global Settings, you have the Lambda Tuning turned on, or it wont work right. When you make a positive change in the o2 map(Its called the Analog Map in the SMT Software), whats going to happen is the SMT7 is going make the o2 signal report back to the ECU that the AFR is lean, and its going to add fuel to get back to 14.7. I cant remember the EXACT numbers you would want to put in that map but i can look on monday when i get back to work. All my documentation and research is on my work computer haha. thats where i spend all my time on a computer, and about 99% of my work day the forum or other car/tuning sites/information is up and im researching. I used to know the exact values you would want to put in but i've researched the AEM FIC so much i forgot most of the stuff i knew about the SMT's.
EDIT: If im not mistaken, a value of 20 is going to alter the o2 signal by 1 full point. So if 0 = 14.7 and you want to make the car run at a 11.7 - 12.0 AFR, you would need to put a value of 60 in the cells you want a 11.7 AFR. IF you want to go the other way and make the car run leaner, you would put a negative value in the cells(but you most likely wont be doing that).
Keep in mind yellow, you cannot replace your stock injectors with the SMT7. What you can do tho is put a 12ohm resistor(WopOnTour had mentioned this) on the stock injector harness for each injector and then have the SMT-7 run all 4 injectors on its own. You would then use the Injector map to control the fuel, and use the 02 map using negative numbers so that the car always sees 14.7 AFR but really your running a 12.0 or whatever you prefer. You have to remember that you have to keep the fuel trim as close to 0 as possible or the car will go into limp mode because it is trying to compensate for a huge change in fuel. If your not sure what trim is, google it =P
Honestly, i would sell the SMT7 and buy a AEM FIC. You have the ability to replace injectors A LOT easier then with the SMT7 and it has already been proven to work on our cars by AEM.(and soon to be me)

First i would download the user manual and the tips pdf file. if you have any questions let me know. it would be your best bet and a lot easier then megasquirts for now. You have the ability to control injectors, o2 signal, and timing. Basically a fuel/timing stand alone =P

i had the megqsquirts before.. after some baaaad Taco Bell..
On a lighter note. Sw4y... I too will be getting the AEN FI/C soon. Cannot wait to get this thing hooked up and start playing. Just waiting to get an AEM w/b before I do anything though.

Awesome! let me know how the install went for you. Feel free to ask questions. Are you going turbo? or you gonna do some cam work? I would really like to see how the 2.2 does with some Stg 2 cams and the FIC. I've put a lot of money into parts i cant afford cams right now to try it.

I'm going forced induction with a ECOtec turbo setup. Small turbo and a water/air intercooled setup using stock SS/SC injectors (all I want is 8psi to stay safe) and using a stock SS/SC downpipe for after the turbo. Should work out all right! Maybe some turbo grind cams to even out the torque curve as well... good luck with your setup and lemme know how it goes for you!
Until all the Turbo parts are in my hands I'll be tweaking the NA aspect of my HHR. Should be fun and interesting!

Good luck. There's not many people with tuning on their 2.2's. What I would try and do is get a base map from one of the ss/sc guys. I'm guessing you have a wideband installed?
