Question: when you install the shifter, does your parking brake stay engaged? I have an angled driveway, and I'm planning on doing it soon rather than waiting for a bay to be opened at my broinlaw's shop.

Installed mine this afternoon with dad. Works flawlessly. Took a while because the descriptions of some stuff weren't the greatest.
Question: When the car is running and I throw from 1st to 2nd really hard (gotta not do that) it then throws everything out and I can't get into 2nd or 4th (I hear the plastic piece on the cable moving). Does anyone else have that problem? I throw it into 3rd and then everything adjusts itself and I gain my even gears.
If I throw lightly/short like intended, everything works like a charm.

What happens is, if i pull it back hard, instead of "sticking" into gear, it goes all wobbly like its in neutral, and 2nd and 4th disappear.
What I think is happening is the plastic piece that attaches to the cable is smashing into something. Tomorrow I'm going to take off some plastic and drive around in some deserted place to see if it works.

Not that it's much help, but I had a similar problem when hard shifting. I would go to slam it into second and it just wouldn't give so I had to jump to 3rd. The reason this problem isn't much help is because it just worked itself out and never happened again. It freaked me out Im guessing something was loose or not setting properly and it just fell into place.
Wow re-reading your post that is the exact same thing that happened to me, I just don't remember taking anything apart to fix it. I'd check that the cables are properly locked in, I'm pretty sure you cand do that by just removing the one console piece.

I recentlu installed the twm.....works great...I had to cut back a little more plastic then the book calls for but that's also cuz I wanted my shifter location different.....as for it being the shortest....its as short as u can go withought cutting the actuall shifter...there's no more clearance for a longer bottom piece...so really if u want a shorter shifter u can only get away with another 1/4 inch or so...if anyone as questions about this pm me....I know the cobalts shifer inside and out now

what i did was take the rubber bushings from where the shifter mount was and i slid them down the shaft of the short throw then i took the old plastic piece and zip tied that to it.. and put the metal deal over it and put the shift knob on.. work fine for me..

You dont need any of the old pieces. The medal piece below the knob has the shape to put the boot in, and then add one of the new supplied zip ties (just like the white one you cut). Then the boot won't be tight, it will be loose like it was before.

The most ghetto shifter, we did it to my friends 07 LT, Get a hacksaw, cut down to a desired height, about 1.5 to 2 inches I would recommend. Go out and spend 35$ on a decent (ADJUSTABLE) shift knob. Then slide the new knob over the new short throw, tighten, and DONE.
Pros- Shorter throw, Looks bad ass
Cons- Still same bushings
