Upgrading internals

So I plan to order new rods, pistons, head gasket, and head studs. I also plan to get new valves but I was wondering how much harder will it be to replace the valves if I'm in there to replace the rods and pistons? Will it be a lot harder and more work or will I have to remove the valves anyway to get to the rods and pistons? Thanks.

dont forget rod and main bearings....no u wouldnt remove the valves they are in the head and will come in one piece with the head...if u wanna change them get some valvesprings and valves and have a shop put them in.

what do you mean rod and main bearings? And I'd just be doing the valves not the valve springs? Can I do it that way?

Ok so I'll have to pass on the new valves until I can afford springs. Do I need the main a new main bearing set?

Sorry to be, "that guy," but if you don't know the answer to these questions, you have no business doing that kind of work. You're going to end up spinning a bearing and having to pay someone else to do it anyway. These aren't lego blocks, they're precision machines and if you miss a tolerance or torque spec, forget a ring or even torque in the wrong order you could have serious problems.

So don't be that guy? And I never said I personally was doing these repairs myself. I will be having a shop do these installs though. And I just wanted to know so I can be sure what parts to get. But I do 100% need these new rod bearings, etc. parts? Is there a good place to get all of them from for the best price?

Sorry I know how to read properly and am watching out for your best interest. If the shop is worth two ***** they will be able to help you get a parts list together free of charge. You will need all new bearings, rings, if you are replacing the valves the seats may need to be machined for a safety angle depending on the condition of the head, etc. Make an appointment with someone at the shop to talk about it and figure things out. Most importantly, give yourself a $500+ margin of error for anything they may need to replace due to wear or something that happens in the process. It almost always costs more than you expect.

What exactly are your goals? Things like bearings and rings always need to be replaced, but others are just nice extras that you are better off just replacing while the head is off the block.

Sorry I said that just to be simpler than saying the shop or whatever. But my goals are just to increase the internals so I don't blow them up. Mostly new rods and pistons. The valves and valvesprings will have to wait. But for now I'm going to be doing the rods and pistons and replacing the head gasket and head studs.

OK, then yes, you will need new bearings and rings, you will want pins too, but those often come with a piston set.

I'm gonna get this kit. Wiseco Pistons Eagle Rods Chevy Cobalt Ecotec 2.2L L61 - eBay (item 270620005828 end time Mar-07-11 13:23:16 PST)
It comes with rings and pins, so then all I'll need is a bearing set right?

Yes, we could not do that, but we can price match their standard ebay listing.

Because that is below cost? Not sure how they get them that cheap. They may have extra inventory they just want to move and dont care if they loose $.
