Valve cover breather covered in oil ?!!

Is it normal for this to be soaked in oil? i thought it was only for air flow.. I'm talking about the little red filter on the valvue cover. i just noticed that its wet with oil, engine oil is my guess because its the color of oil lol. anything to worry about?

it's your pcv system. Ideally, it's relieving crankcase pressure in your engine. But, if you're having a lot of oil come out of it, then you're probably experiencing blowby.

^^agreed. If that filter is getting wet with oil, time to ditch it for a catch can

whatever happened to that how-to from the rl forums? great make-shift catch-can idea for less than 20 bucks. That's right up my alley.

Greddy makes a nice catch can, kelli's got one on her SRT. Just make sure to mount it somewhere easily accessible so you can drain it every now and then. Kelli's was there when we bought the car and the tard **** mounted it on the firewall where its damn near inaccessible...to the point I have to dismount it and take the lines off every time. I just haven't moved it yet cuz I'm lazy

Yes its normal, your car did that stock you just never daw since it was routed into the intake. I do agree on a boosted L61 a catch can is a must. You run the risk of boosting the crankcase.

thats the 1/4" water separator, i think thats what they use for the "do it yourself" catch can, but it might be the 3/8" also...not sure been a while since i had any info on them

on the lsj's the pcv hose running from the back is 3/4 i believe, cause my 5/8 wouldn't fit. but idk what it is for those engines.

but if you want a solution... put the hose back on. you shouldn't have it vented like that.

yeah, run the line from the valve cover to the catch can then back into the intake manifold

i think i'm gonna see if i can get my friend at the machine shop i used to work at to make a can with a screened filter and on one side have two -10an fittings, and on the other side, or some other spot, have one -10an so you can run two lines from the back corner of the vc, and from the oil cap to the can, then one line back to the intake.

I'm having the same issue, where would the hoses be put on though? One goes on the valve cover but my intake doesn't have a port like his does.
