oh i'm definitely taking my time. I got the rods and pistons in and put the head on and got the balance shafts timed in pretty easily.

BUT the cam timing is not so easy lol. I can't get the colored links to line up with the cam sprockets they are like a tooth off on both. the one on the bottom is lined up with the white dot at 5 oclocl and the cam sprockets are at 10 and 2 (exhaust and intake respectively).

It's hard to see but you can tell the colored links are not lined up with the triangle for exhaust and the diamond for intake

i went with a new timing set and that made it much easier to line the marks up. my cousin thought it best cause the chains do wear out over time and having run a healthy shot of nitrous on the motor he had little faith in the stock timing setup holding up.

is the link on the crank lined up. looks like thats the one that could possibly be off. can you get a pick of the entire cam timing set as it sits?

Yes the white dot on the crank is at 5 o'clock and the link is on there. I didn't take a picture of the whole setup and the car is an hour away from me now. it seems like the cam gears are like a tooth too far away from each other for the links to match up

I colored where the links are and you can see if i go one way it will make the other one be off more and vice versa

I had a shop do the valve springs... am I supposed to turn the cams while putting the chain on or will that break something?

I found this on another website and it says to line up the intake cam with the link and work clockwise and go to the crank and line up the mark there and then when you get to the exhaust cam you have to turn it to line it up????

Install the exhaust camshaft sprocket with the timing chain matching colored link (3) at EXH triangle aligned at the 10 o'clock position

Use a 24 mm wrench to rotate the camshaft slightly, until exhaust sprocket aligns with the camshaft.
Important: Always install NEW sprocket bolts.

yea, don't try that. i'm wondering if they installed the cams properly after they put the springs in.
my cousins head guy did all the reinstall stuff on my head and we had no problems at all lining everything up. from what they explained the cams go back on one way for the reinstall so that made it sound pretty straight forward.
