Yeah Vince is smart as ****. Make sure you get new rod bearings... Other than that you will be good! My car is auto too so we are in the same boat. If it's built then I'd say start with a 2.8 and see what you can do! You might want to pulley down later on, but I don't think you will be disappointed with the 2.8.
Though I have to ask what else do you have done to the car?

Yeah get the upgraded rod bearings, they will die after a while and its something you might as well put in it while youre in there. It was doing fine until I started the build on it lol. I cracked the drum on it with the new clutches so Im looking for an aftermarket one right now or using the 4t65 internals. IDK if ZZP does or not you would have to check. Dont worry about the trans though it will be fine. you're not pushing the power levels on it yet.

Aftermarket bearings broseph! I got mine from TTR
Clevite Rod Bearing Set Chevrolet Cavalier 2002-05 Cobalt 2005-10 2.2L Ecotec - Engine Internals - Turbo Tech Racing, LLC
Get a smaller pulley and let the boost flow! ZZP should have those for you.

Pulley down and get some some true potential out of that thing. Otherwise you will never be able to pulley down and will have to stick with that small amount of boost. I have the 8.9 to 1 in mine... Vince will help you make the right decision with this too.
he wont go boom on 10:1...besides theres no point in going lower than a 2.7 anyway. Any lower and hes just going to overspin the blower and generate massive amounts of heat. also to add to that, hes not going to be able to run a ton of boost to make up for that lack of compression.

takes power to make power, blowers like higher compression

BUT if you guys need a credible source, just check out what ZZP did on the M62.

Agreed... If your just going to stick with the M62, I'd jump your compression up even more to 11 - 11.5 and run meth injection or E85 and pull some sick numbers like ZZP did. You could even run it on 93oct with a good tune. Just make sure you have the right cooling mods. Not saying you need every cooling mod out there, just the right ones. Do your research and you'd have the fastest m62 L61 out there.

I'm trying to think of the guy who did go boom on the 10.1:1... He had a thread on it. Anyways You can go lower than a 2.7 ask Richie He gained a lot of torque going from the 2.7 to the 2.5. Yes you're going to be generating more heat, but if he has cooling mods then who cares... I drive on the 8.9s everyday he doesnt need to make boost to drive... And yes for sure run some e85!

Reason I say to buy the upgraded bearings is because Chris had his go out on him. He was a auto 2.2 with a m62 on a 2.8.

Same as anything else that's gonna be tuned... Your tranny will be fine dude! Just have vince max out the line pressure on the tranny.
