While IonNinja was being a smart ass about it, he is right. Please do a search first. This is an old topic.
You will not be able to disable the governor until a tuning solution for our ECM's is available.

I thought what he was talking about was quite simple, but...
The stock 15" tire is only speed rated to a little over a 100 MPH. After that, it pretty much comes apart. So don't go that fast.

what i found is that you can't remove the speed limiter, but you can have it raised... a friend of mine had his raised from 108 to 150 on his 04 Cavalier... the car tops out at about 135 (radar verified- helps to know troopers)
Of course, he has 17" wheels, Baer brake upgrade, car dropped with H&R springs with the Koni strut/shock sertup...

Guess I should be happy I have Pirellis *wiping a bead of sweat off of forehead*
oh wait... replacing Pirelli Z rated tires... *sweat returning to forehead*....
I wonder now.. Tires are covered accoring to the warranty... I got the car 2nd hand and the person who owned it before me threw some nice tires on it.. If I take it back for new tires what are the chances I'd end up with stock tires?

Seriously, before you even think of going over 100mph, you need to get some tires that are made for that kind of riding.. So save your money and your life, and get some tires that are made for that..
May I suggest Kuhmo ECSTA SPT's?
^^^ Fantastic Tire.

Over 100 MPH?? Not happening unless I'm on the track.. One pot hole and you're either shifting your angle of attack into the next lane or off of the road (not to mention killing the suspension).. 75 suits me fine... Damnit don't call me Driving Miss Daisy.

tires are not covered under your warrenty but under your tire warenty, and tire warrenties are pro-rated meaning, the less tread you have the less you get for them if they have a defect. the tires don't come with any road hazard and if you wear out your tires too fast best case scenerio you will end up being creddited 10 bucks per tire cause the continentals are cheap.

OK, this is getting rediculous. How much do continentals cost? And...
Guys, please, read the thread, understand the thread, then stay on topic with the thread.
If you would please do a search, and then read everything else that is on here, you would have learned....
1. That the ECM on the 2.2L Cobalt has not been cracked, and you will not be able to change anything until it is.
2. The ECM on the 2.0 and the 2.4 are different, and have been cracked, and they can do what ever they want.

I will grant you that GM does have a flash program for the sport package that does raise the speed limiter. And as you said, you need somebody on the inside who is willing to give it to you. I don't allow myself to advertise stuff that people can't get legitimately. GM is not authorized to reflash a base model Cobalt with the sport program, even if the owner has upgraded their wheels and tires.
While this option is possible, it is not legitimately available.
