yellow gives up on the cobalt.
so i was at the track last night and on my first run i dident even move 5 foot. the trans snaped the input shaft again. this is the 3rd trans. in 18000 miles first it was the 2.2 that went at 15000 then it was the 2.0 SS that went at 22000 and now the last one went at 32000 and it was the 2.4 SS with the G85 package and its broke. i all so took the old trans to a pro transmission shop and asked them to make it stronger they kept it for 2 weeks and then asked me to come get it. becouse there was nouthing they could do to it besides put in a couple of bearings like for instance. if it has a 6 ball bearing they could put it a 8-10 ball bearing in there and thats about it there is not enough room or metal to take away and put stronger gears or input shafts and so on. i realy dont know if thats true but they are a very repitable shop and all they do is race cars and drag cars inport and domestic. they dont care.
so im done its over for me im putting another trans in and i selling the car its going back to stock even the exhaust im all so selling every thing i have and the other cobalt the 2.2 lt is gone. im going to use something better to build and race. im going to a awd evo not sure witch one yet but thats what im doing. and i know yall are going to say it the way i shift and drive ive grown up on manuals and i know what to do and what not to do even the ford escort trans is stronger then ares is. im not even mad about it these cars are crap and there warenty is to the car is great to drive and run but there cheaply made. and i dont want a auto and have to have that build with way to much money and becomes unstreetable. so ill show pics as soon as i can on what the trans looks like but its not priety the input shaft is hangng out the bell housing and theres somthing coming out the flat plate on the drivers side.
is there a stronger transmission that i may have missed before i make this final it has to be a manual

damn...well i comend your efforts, you're a pioneer for the rest of us 2.2 guys. no matter what anyone says..you definetly had the coolest 2.2!
gl on your ventures with the evo, i think they're easier to build up..i dont understand how the trans in the 2.0's w/ Stage 3+n2o hold up fine, but it wont hold up in your car? that sucks, hopefully you can find a work around and stick with it.
let me kno if you're selling anything, i got a tiny bit of cash left maybe.

The 2.0 ss trans has a different bolt pattern than our 2.2 crank... What flywheel did you use?
Of course you're the only one I've heard of with these kinds of tranny problems. So I wouldn't jump to conclusions and say the trannies are crap. If I were you I'd take a look at the crankshaft and see if it's not bent or you could possibly have a main bearing gone bad. I'd look into it though. If more people were having problems with it then you might be able to chalk it up to crappy build quality but that's not the case...
Whether it's something you did or not, the case of the snapping input shafts is more or less centered around you.

Trust me, I've beaten the absolute snot out of my transmission, it's the clutch and throw out bearing and the lack of adequate continuous pressure on the lines in the trans. The trans is a fine piece. Capable in some cars for 250-400 lb ft of tq (depending on model).

bro i know you said it's not, but maybe it is your driving? i've never heard of anyone going through 3 trannies like that. the trannies are capable of holding more power than ANYONE here has put down on a 2.2

You would have to set up a standalone tcm setup for that trans... which may or may not be available.
You could try hardwiring the 4t65e tcm to your bcm... which may or may not be possible.
I'm not even sure if it would bolt up correctly... or for that matter even fit correctly. You would probably need custom half shafts made, custom shifter cables, bellhousing, any of a dozen things are going to be completely custom. Basically it would take a dam good transmission shop to pull that one off.
It's difficult enough to try and get a mechanical trans swap like that to work... without having to work with all the electrical factors also.
You're better off just buying a race tranny IMO.

im not getting in a debate with ya. but my last trans i pulled my self came out of a 2.4 SS and i was told by the guy who owned the car that it had a LSD diff. and trans package. so i asume thats the g85 package. all i know is both wheels used to spin all the time.. and that was the strongest trans i have had.

Also, I have a transmission for sale if you need one...also have an engine with Weisco Pistons, ARP Head Studs, Eagle Rods, and Cometic Head Gasket.
Sucks to hear about what happened to your car. I'd say keep the car and see if you can improve upon things. Come on man, someone's got to beat my 14.6 and I thought that would be you.

Make me an offer, I wouldn't know what a new one would cost. Only has 8k miles on it. Keep in mind it'll have to be shipped freight. It'll come with stock axles as well.
