06 2.4 Auto limits?
So just wondering what the limits are on my car. I know the tranny is a POS and it already feels like it struggles some or maybe the pressure was just increased to hold on in 3rd gear but whatever.
Also what can the engine hold? I've been told they can only handle like 260-280whp or so and that I would need to upgrade pistons and rods but then I've also heard that the pistons and rods on the 06s are stronger?
I'm on a conservative tune right now running 22 timing and I want to turn it up later on but I would like to know what it is that I would need to upgrade for the engine to be safe.
After I graduate I will be doing a full build and throwing a tvs so not too worried on going big right now. I just want to push the car a little more and make it a bit safer for the time being.

you will be fine engine wise 350-400
you can TVS the stock engine not a problem
Depending on the years midish07-10; GM replaced the forged rods
The trans; I know they hold decent, but I dont know enough about them to speculate

really...hmmm. so I'd be able to get my tune increased and be fine? How do I check if my tune is made so that it shifts stiffer to a certain gear during wot? I feel my car shift pretty hard when it goes from 2-3rd and it feels stiffer throughout the gear than through the other gears

Do you have a tuner yourself to find out? I can tell you that increasing the shift pressures will firm the shift a lot. I bumped mine up considerably and now my tires chirp WOT on the 1>2 shift. Stock, the 2>3 shift never exceeded 15-20psi. I can post the stock tables if you want them.

And I'm thinking he made it shift harder when I went e85 cuz that's when I started to feel it. I added a trans cooler cuz of it lol

Trans>Auto Shift Properties>Shift time
These are the stock pattern X upshift and downshift tables pulled from a stock '07 2.4 Cobalt. Increasing those values ups the pressure and, thus, the firmness of the shift. Check all the tables. I bet they are high. Just make sure none are above the max of 90psi

Twooz,
I've ran 10-14psi since last April. Thats a full year of multiple tuning sessions and a drag day. Not to mention other races. Even though I baby and take care of this car I still get the lead foot from time to time. I have had zero mechanical issues thus far on both the motor and 4t45. Only thing tune wise to the trans is slightly stiffened line pressure to prevent slip. All of this, however, doesn't mean I have not had bad experiences. At times the auto trans is a bitch when it comes to medium throttle and boost. Can't prevent it from slipping during a shift. 137k miles and running strong.
P.S... What most people don't realize is.. Research and quality parts and tuning goes a LONG way. I've seen too many part outs due to lack of common sense.
