06 cobalt 2.4l

So I'm really new to this, so new that JUST learned what boltons are. But anyways I have the 06 cobalt ss 2.4l. And a plan on putting a turbo on it but don't have the money for it right now. I'm wondering what other mods I can do do it that I can keep when I get a turbo kit. As of right now I'm thinking a CAI and a performence chip but I don't know which ones will give me the MOST power for my buck. Please help

No performance chips. Tune the car and you will get more power out of it. CAI will not stay after turbo, go SRI is cheaper. And rest is the same. Catback yada yada yada...... lol

Why would cai not stay when I get the turbo, just wondering? And I was told I shouldn't get SRI, I live in Florida and there is a hell of a lot of rain. I wanna be able to beat a civic si.

Get the Injen intake we have, it can be installed as a cold air, or a short ram, your choice. You can switch is back and forth as many times as you would like also! They are in stock.

A SRI is the intake that doesn't suck any rain. The CAI goes down behind ur headlight. It can suck up rain. You have it backwards.

You have a lot of reasearch to do. You just figured out what "bolt ons" where and now you want to install a turbo kit lol.

First of all, performance chips are useless for this car. They are all scams. Get a tune from either Trifecta or HP Tuners.

um the only thing thats gonna stay when you turbo is gonna be an exhaust and downpipe and throttle body i have an lsj throttle body for sale if you want i live in florida too i will be at bradeton sunday

you wont be able to beat a si with basic bolt ons and less if it is the 2.4 si..........

i live in florida too, south florida and rains is a bich*

where are you located? i have my k&n sri if you wanted. $175.00

The only "chips" available are the jet modules and while they do help they arent as affective as a full on tune and not all that much cheaper than a full on tune unless you find one used.

So id stick to a full on tune.

The rest of the parts choose something that fits your budget and end goal for the car dont do a mod just to do a mod.

Search around on this forum all the information is there.

Normally... $100 for the credits this is for HP tuner. Trifecta is more, from what I have seen.

I'd do a tune after you get your car where you want it modification wise. Tunes depend on the tuner but to have your car tuned probably 250-350.

If your a 5spd and you do the full exhaust intake and throttle body you will probably be able to beat a stock civic si if your a good driver. If your an auto you will probably need a bit more.

Honestly on a 2.4 if you want real power the best route to go is turbo or supercharger.
But do your research decide which path you want and then start buying the parts you need to get the car to its end goal.

edit: I havent really been reading much of the posts in this thread cause I just dont care to. But not many parts will transfer over to a turbocharger build. The throttle body and Catback could. But you'd have to decide your end power goals to decide on a catback (whether you need 2.5" or 3" exhaust). Mods you could do would be upgraded engine and transmission mounts and upgrading the brakes. (stock 2.4/LSJ brakes suck)

But the downpipe will not transfer over on a turbo build. A header wont transfer over on a turbo build. A cold air intake will not transfer over on a turbo build. A tune will not transfer over to a turbo build (however a tuner wouldnt charge you full price to retune the car after the turbo build..)

Catback and a drop-in k&n. You can go a little further without wasting money parts wise going supercharged because you can do the whole exhaust. Turbo you can only do pretty much what I said at the beginning without having to sell off parts when the kit goes on.

The 2.4 is not as fast as the SC or TC but it can beat Honda SI's. I used to do it when I had my 06/SS 2.4 stock.

Like demento, i have a 06 2.4 and i've taken down SI's at the track. but like its been said know you end goal and stick to it. catback is a deffinate add on you can do now, just get the size you will need for your build later on, and if you really want an intake, buya used one so you dont spend a ton and you can still sell it when your done for probably around the same price. there are plenty of guys on here who have built 2.4's, start searching adn reading. you have a long way to go.
