17" ss wheels

I know this might not be the right place for this but is specific to the 2.4 ss.

Does anyone know what the coating is on the wheels, I have tryed everything to get my clean and I still have what looks like water spots but are not. and I think I have noticed and small chip on one of my wheels but not sure if it is a chip or some crap that I may have picked up driving thru a constrution site.

thanks

I didn't think there was a coating. I thought they were just polished aluminum.

are they the normal "shiny" stock 17's that come on the 2.4? If so, they are considered polished, but I am pretty positive there is a clear coat finish on top of them

mine have always been kinda dull but I just thought that they werent being givin the attention they needed to shine, (man that sounds like something a teacher said to my parents when I was younger) so I washed them by hand and then dryed them still had some spots and still dull. So I bought some polish and that didnt work.

What polish did you use? If it was for bare aluminum, it wouldn't do any good on a clear-coated wheel. For clear coat, try the same polish/wax you use on the paint.

I also am pretty sure they're clear-coated. When my 4 were destroyed by the "Pothole From Hell" I could see what looked like paint cracking around the creases where they were bent.

they're clear coated... what you want to do is wash them severl times and dry them with a soft cloth. after they are CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN... get some good quality wax and wax them just like any other part of the car... rub it off, and wax them again. (i did mine like 4 times) after that they should shine like a new dime.

as a side benefit, they won't get dirty as fast if you keem them waxed.

The normal SS and SS/SC rims, not the chrome ones, are painted and clear coated. You have to treat them the same as you would the paint on the car body or you can scratch them fairly easily.
