173.3 HP at the wheels on a mustang dyno...Hell Yeah!
Got my car dynoed on a mustang dyno today to see where it was at as far as a/f ratios so I could send my comp back to westers to retune and I put down 173.3 HP at the wheels. I was hoping to be around 140 to 150, especially since my car is an automatic. So yeah I was excited. Bad news is it is running lean right now(about a 14.4). I have to make sure that it is not showing up lean because of an exhaust lean(I had a new header installed and there was a leak but the problem had seemed to be fixed, apparantly it might still be leaking). Otherwise I figure that it's lean because of the new header and downpipe. For those of you who are wondering I'm currently running a weapon r intake($230), pacesetter header($270), no cat(free), magnaflow muffler($90, just muffler not cat back) and wester's tune($400). Now that is not counting labor, but I'm pretty proud of my little ss. My best time so far has been a 15.5(for those who like corrected times that would be a 15.39). Can't wait to see what I can do with the right A/F ratios and some good tires.

Well I i'm a little skepticle myself but it is at the wheels not the flywheel. I'm not sure if I believe it myself. But I did at central florida turbo(very reputable dyno). I dynoed my last car there a neon(modded up the ass intake full exhaust throttle body cam cam gear retune hi stall convertor shift kit 10 mm ignition wire iridium plugs venom 400 piggy back fuel controller) and I pulled 102(that was a piece of ****). So I don't think their dyno inflates numbers cause. For what I had spent on that car my car wasn't making **** for power. I don't know if it's really making 173 but I'm going to another dyno in the next two days to double check the A/F ratios so I'll let you know then.

the actual reason that I went to a dyno in the first place was because I didn't really see a change in my times so that why I was going to have them retune it. Now if it is really making 173 at the wheels than they definitely did something right cause it's making some real power. If the A/F is really 14.4 and the engine is that lean, than maybe I need more fuel and maybe that's why I'm not catching a better 1/4 mile time. I've heard these cars respond real well to some added fuel(since they tend to be lean as is) mayber that's my problem. Or maybe I just need traction, or maybe a better launch. Who knows. I will say that my 60 fts are low 2.3's so I think I'm doing pretty good for an auto.
so are you trying to say that I should trust those numbers

i think its possible. sounds rite. with a tune yeah i think it sounds rite. have u run it at the track. but yeah dude get a wideband and tune that a:f. wut the 2.4 dyny's stock around 145?
figure intake-5whp
whole catback-10whp
downpipe/header-10whp
and a really good tune...with good a:f
its possible.

The one who has also dynoed his car on a mustang dyno
Not the guy who has a black on black 5 speed and no dyno numbers, track times, or mods listed. Besides I'm not saying that the numbers are real, I'm not sure yet. That's why I'm going to a different dyno. But damn chill with the negativity and get your black on black 5 speed to a track or on a dyno. Than you can tell us how good you did. And people can bash you talkin about how they don't believe it. How good of a driver are you, can you beat a 15.5 in your five speed. I would hope so with your car being a manual. Then there is also your reaction time, how good is it. Wait let me stop being negative. I forget I just started a thread to fill people in on my good news. Because if my numbers are real than we have some bad ass 4 bangers in our cars and props are owed to tune time

my 2.4 stock dynoed 153whp and 151wtrq on a dyno jet and im also a 5 speed to. 173hp to the crank is what these cars have. and if you did do 173whp you will no be running a 15.5 because they do that stock with 153whp.

Well when I can get my sheet scanned I'll post it. And as soon as I get my car dynoed at a different dyno I'll let you know. Then we can see if the numbers are real or not. Once I get my af ratios fixed I'll track my car again and see if I can put out some better times. Like I said I'm not sure how much I believe it but if it's real... **** all I can say is cool!

u shud b running def faster than a 15.5. i ran a 15.5with a intake a the track last friday. i mean i have a slight tune but its just havin the tranny shift higher at WOT. so yeah i mean i cud see the numbers..but the track times..NO WAY. shud b faster than that.

The thing with mustangs is they tend to be lower because of the load put on the rollers, but that depends on the operators settings. BTW my 2.4 5-speed pulled 160 on a mustang with a Intake, 2.5 axle back exhaust, and vector tune. I could see me picking up 10 w/ a header and catless dp. But yours is an auto so the numbers should be a little lower then a manual. And as far as the times all tracks are different just like dyno's. I run 9.6's @75 all day at our local 1/8th mile, i go to a 1/4 mile in indy and run a 15.3 but my 1/8th mile time was a 10.0 @71, same mods.

Wasn't meant to be a negative comment, but take it however you want I guess. I figured you were asking for opinions, so I gave you mine. I mean, if you want me to BS you, I could say yeah trust the numbers you definitely made 173 whp and 15.5 is an awesome time for 173whp.
All I did was inputted my opinion, where I thought you were asking for the community's opinion.
Nevertheless, good luck on the new dyno and I hope you get that afr worked out.

I think a 14.99@ 95ish isn't totally out of the question though. the A/t is the only thing holding u back. did they change the tranny tune too?
yes i am saying that. on a Dynojet you will se some higher power levels than a mustang dyno.
i think they just tuned the **** out of it, and it made good power.
Maybe the O.P should think about taking his car to a Muffler shop, and have them finish his half-assed exhaust. i see another 5-8whp being restricted by his factory catback.
if not, it's gonna hit 15.0-15.1...
Good luck next time dude. Post up your Dyno chart and timeslips. maybe we can help you achieve a 14 second pass.
Also, what program did they tune with? Westers?
