2.2 2.4 engine swap

I'm having a problem with my 2.2l - 2.4l engine swap. I read a few threads on the subject here and thought it was pretty straight forward. I bought an 07 Cobalt manual trans with a blown 2.2. I took the engine out of an 07 2.4 cobalt and wired up the vvt and exhaust cam sensor. I also had to add a clutch pedal position sensor. I flashed the PCM with an 08 2.4 cobalt VIN. I relearned the vats with no problems. When I crank it I have no injector pulse. I don't have any codes besides the crank relearn code. All my sensors are working and the anti theft is inactive according to my Autel scanner. What am I missing?

Think the crank timing wheel is different.

I did this swap on my car too. Exept when i swapped the OS i used hptuners and disabled all of the starter checks and clutch safety switch. It runs once i did that, but for some odd reason when the key was in run when i depressed the clutch the car would crank, so i got rid of that switch and wired it to a button on my dash. Have you verified all the interior wiring like to the bcm and ipc are the same? Im suspect that they are not and thats why my car started with the clutch.

The 07 has an on off clutch switch and the 08 has a 3 wire position sensor. You have to wire the position sensor to pins 45 61 and 11 on C1. Then relearn the position switch.

I think I have a BCM issue so I may have to get a new BCM and set the vin to match the pcm or go the hptuner route like you did.

I got the car going finally. I installed and relearned the clutch position sensor. It still wouldn't crank. So I thought I could just jump the starter relay with the key on like I've done with many other cars. Guess what it doesn't work. It thinks the relay is shorted and kills injector pulse. They even have a PID on the scanner that says starter relay shorted. So in 07 the starter relay goes to C1 pin 31 and is grounded by that pin. In 2008 they use C1 pin 32 and power the relay with 12v. So I grounded the no longer used clutch switch and moved pin 31 to pin 32 and the car fired right up.

Jesus christ where was this thread when I google searched the swap!!!!!!???? I just figured this out today. I had to cut the original wiring to PNP switch and run it to ground, auto trans...which also lead to other issues.

I'm glad I came across this thread. I'm looking to be doing the 2.4 swap into a 05 base. I know that I'll need the motor and wiring harness along with the ECM. What else do I need so that I can swap it into the car? I'm hoping to find an 07 since from reading, it would be easier to swap over? any info would be great. I do plan on boosting this motor by the way.

Using an 05 base might be a bit more difficult. In 07 the 2.4 cobalts came with a 3 plug PCM and in 08 the 2.4 Cobalts came with a two plug PCM. Lucky for me the 08 2.4L 2 plug PCM was the exact same PCM that came in my 07 2.2 LS So all I had to do was flash the PCM with an 08 2.4 car and add the extra wires for the VVT. I also had to fabricate a bracket for a clutch position switch and wire it up as well.

Good luck to you it's a fun swap to do. Just make sure you have another car to drive while you work out all the kinks. It took me about 3 weeks.

My plan was to grab as much of the engine wiring harness as possible when I go to get the motor. Hope to get the motor plus wiring and the ECU all together. Flash the ECU for a 5 speed and be good?

For 05 you will likely need the entire cars wiring

i agree with Slowbalt. Get everything you can. If you get everything out of an 07 then you can flash it using an 07 2.4 manual transmission VIN number.

07 2.4 use the e67
08 2.4 use the e37

Just remember that

Gotcha! I'll make sure to do my research into swapping this out for the 2.4 stuff. Hopefully it can be done with my pos 05 base. Clearly Chevy didn't like us 05/06 after those years. LOL
