2.4 ION Key Getting Stuck in Ignition

Hey all, I bought a 2006 ION 3 sedan 2.4 for a daily, and I'm having an intermittent issue with it. Whenever the car is turned off and put in park, the key sometimes does not want to remove from the ignition. Basically I have to take it out of park and move it back and forth a few times to release the key, kind of a pain to mess with. I'd like to fix it without dumping much money into this car.

What could be the problem with it?

Was there some kind of recall on this?

I have an 08 Cobalt 2.4 and I thought this could've been an issue before. Turns out it was an entirely different issue altogether but, when looking in to this, there is a recall on the ignition switch.... I don't know about the cylinder though. Heard it can be a real pain though, and some people highly recommend a locksmith. Just my two cents worth

There is a recall for this on the cobalts/g5 I honestly do not know if there is on the ions. I would stop by a GM dealer and ask them.

I had a problem on my 07 basemodel where the key didnt come out, they ended up replacing the gear selector on my car. On the cobalt it has a small lid on the bottom of the steering wheel, all i would do was put my thumb inside and press a small spring or something like that and that would release the key but you have to keep it pressed while you take out the key

Yeah, I heard that too about the shifter assembly. I'm thinking that may be it since I have to move it around and back to park again.

Did GM have a recall or TSB on this? I'm hoping that GM will cover the cost. I don't really feel like putting much into it since it's my daily beater. I'm checking with the dealer to see if there's any open recalls.

How difficult is the automatic shifter assembly to replace?
