2.4 Vs. 2.2

Hey all, I have a SS 2.4 auto and my buddy has a 2.2 auto and we drove each others car this weekend. My friend who is KapnKirk on this site was really impressed with my car. He said in the higher gears my car had a way better pull than his car. We both have Injen CAIs and I have a DNX carbon fiber exhaust. I was actually quite impressed with his car it felt great off the line, but I agree my car got to top speed much quicker. I have eibach sportlines and he has the pro kit. I just wanted to give props to GM for making both models great, I love the cobalt.

yeah, they do a bang-up job. They could have just made a sup-par compact car and still sold a lot b/c of the price range - but they made a solid machine

Yea I agree in my area there are virtually no cobalts, I was so suprised my friend actually got one.

I live about an hour and a half north of los angeles and the cobalt gets no respect where I live But Im reppin' it as hard as I can. I race most cars in my area and I have had pretty good results so far.

i agree with you. I used to have a 2.2 until someone drove into me. yeah that sucked. the gearing of the 2.2 auto is awesome. I would take some 2.0's off the line and then they would kill me cuz I was stock and there were crazily modded.

now i have a 2.4 auto. Im in the process of working everything on the car. yes the 2.4 pulls alot in the higher rpms due to the VVT. you def feel it. both are good cars with no f/i coming stock. whats good about modding them you will see a lot of gains due to GM making everything on the car very restrictive. when i put on a intake on my 2.2. it totally woke up the car and i just cant wait to start modding my 2.4.

any car with t/c is always bad on the starting line that's why 2.4 auto felt weak initially due to this feature

The issue of traction control starting is one that can be disabled.

Read my sticky thread the drag racing section on how to launch the automatic.

Only if you spin the tires and the computer backs off the power. Otherwise it has no effect. Just stick it in L and it turns off the T/C.

The VVT helps and so does the fact that the SS cars automatic has different gearing! gets it off the line quicker.

I didn't think DNX made exhausts for our cars. I thought they only made mufflers. If you have just a muffler, then just say you have a muffler, not an exhaust. Im not trying to sound mean, but it just makes it less confusing in the long run, b/c alot of guys who just slap a universal muffler on refer to it as an exhaust. Granted, its part of an exhaust....but thats just it...part of it. Most people refer to a cat-back as an exhaust, and a full exhaust is header+downpipe+cat-back.

Ideally yes, but cobalt is not that sophisticated like others

try to race a 96' auto BMW w/ lower hp & torque with a cobalt having t/c on, then try again but this time, turn the cobalt's t/c off by clicking your handbreak once

gm likes to restrict a lot of stuff but with a nice computer tune, most restrictions are taken off like the 130 mph limit top off.

not like anyone is gonna reach that in a drag anyway...
