2.4 ZZP Turbo , Getrag F23. Long Term prospects

I've heard so many mixed stories about our tranny. Some people say it cant handle much more than stock, some people say 300 is the limit, also have read on some cavi forums about 3800 turbo swaps and it handling 650 + ..

so to any one who has gone turbo (or SC for that matter) how is your tranny holding up ?(outside of clutch of course)

what problems have you had?

Thanks

i also have the ZZP turbo s256ET. the clutch got smoked on the dyno after original install. it still held for a little bit. once i got a gauge in i realized i was running 16 psi. turned it down to 10 for now. Breaking in the new clutch right now and the getrag seems to be holdin alright. once my break in is complete i'm gettin a new tune to put it over 300...i could let you know then haha

It can handle a lot but it's all in how you drive it. If you are doing burnouts or revving it way up and dumping the clutch, something's gotta give and if it isn't the clutch its usually the axles or trans. Anyways, I've been boosted almost a year and besides the clutch seem to be doing ok. Except for some reason I can't downshift into 2nd but I have no idea why.

They are very strong if you don't abuse them.

I've seen 600+whp and the stock trans doing fine, hell one guy blew up the Quaife LSD he installed in his and the rest of the trans was fine, swapped in a stock welded diff and kept going (this was at 650whp IIRC).

my axle seal leaked 5 times, needed a new clutch and flywheel cause they were messed up and needed a new axle. my last run at the track (only been on track 3 times) is probably what messed it all up from wheel hop. all this from my mods below. smh maybe i just have a lemon tranny cause i've had nothing but problems with it since day one. i dont even race lol just drive like an @$$ sometimes. i only have 25k on the car

I haven't read through the other posts so ignore me if I repeat something.. Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, I thought our transmissions were built to be able to stand up to the 3800 and then some? Granted, I'm still N/A, but I'm just thinkin.

I was nervous when I went SC about the trans, I knew the clutch was gonna go so I was prepared for that. Everyone I know is very surprised at how everything is holding up. Im at 14psi with all stock motor, never even pulled valve cover off; And I do a 2nd-4th pull every day on the way home from work. I dont beat the absolute **** out of it and I take very good care of all my vehicles, but I am not very nice to it and I have taken it to the track twice.
GM underrated these transmission, I dont even think about the possibility of the trans breaking. Im more concerned about my CVs that are making a really cool clunk(not a clank like it should) on accel or decel...
