2.4G6 Engine.

Okay heres my question..

I have a 2.4L G6. is the engine the same as the 2.4 cobalt?

Also, as far as intakes go..i haven't been able to find ANYTHING for a 2.4 ecotec. Where are all you guys getting these? Or does the 2.2 intake fit the 2.4....Im just really confused. Thanks

Jack

ahh i feel so much better.

a 2.4 owner on another site put a 2.2 intake on his 2.4 g6. It threw a code and had severe bogging..

did anybody experience that on their cobalt?

Yes, i know about that site. I am an active member. I was just wondering if anybody here had experienced engine bogging on their 2.4Cobalt, being they have the same engine

just because its the same motor doesn't necessarily mean it would work...I would wait for something to come out for the G6 specifically.

Way back when, an Ion owner attempted to put a Cobalt 2.2 intake on his 2.2 Ion and it threw codes as well.

I think it has to do with the MAF on each car...

The 2.4 and 2.2 have the same intake... if your "buddy" got a CEL it was probably b/c he touched the sensor end of the MAF... or he over oiled the filter. A 2.4 Cobalt intake might not fit on a 2.4 G6... I'd need to see a pic of your engine compartment layout to tell you for sure.

Ummmm... no. The G6 has the same 2.4L Ecotec motor, but it's on a different platform. I'm not saying it won't work... but there could be fitment issues.

I agree. The air filter box is not the same (RE: picture of G6 engine/box above) so the GMPP intake would not be a shoe-in as it uses the Cobalt's air filter box base.

Your inner fender well maps out differently so a Cobalt CAI wouldn't have anywhere to mount too... you'll have to use a short ram to get it to work. I wouldn't reccomend the GM intake either b/c the heat shield that comes with it won't fit your car anyways.

Except for the fact that you can see what looks to be the coolant reservoir in the upper right which is different than an SS, you can see the hard line for the A/C on the left of the motor which is different than an SS, and the entire bumper/fender is different... trust me... they are different. Yeah, you could run the Injen as a SRI... but as far as installing it as the full unit down into the fenderwell, chances are it won't fit.

yeah, I had a custom setup and it threw a code and I had engine bog..but maybe the ingen will work. Hopefully I will get my SS in a month or so, so I will hold off on the intake for now.

Cant wait to join the SS team!

Injen filters are oiled. What kind of supporting vendor are you?

Get an AEM dry flow filter. Problem solved. I have one on my 2.2L and I've never thrown a code. Don't forget to disconnect your battery for 10 mins after install and let the car idle for at least 2 mins after starting the first time to let it get used to it's new flow #'s.

The maf looks the same so It shouldn't throw a Code, I would go for the AEM with the dryflow filter though

really i thought the ion cobalt and g5 were all the same platform.... suppose that may be a reason there isnt a supercarged g5

idk from what i remember about my stock intake it looks pretty much the same but since its a different platform it may be different.

X2.
It doesn't look like the same set up under the hood. But then again, Lot's of people are getting CELs from aftermarket intakes made for their cars anyway.

Look into the injector swap, tune, and intake/exhaust

Oy... this just keeps getting worse...

In the FWD GM vehicles... the 2.4 is the same as far as the engine goes. the "peripherals"(airbox, fusebox, washer fluid bottle, etc.) are gonna be laid out differently b/c of the size and shape of the engine bays in various vehicles.

The Cobalt and G6 are on different platforms... so nothing is gonna be laid out the same at all. Y'all are thinking that the G4/G5/Pursuit (whatever you wanna call it) is the same as the G6... it's a different platform... otherwise we'd have people ditching the LSJ and looking at swapping in a 3.6L V6 a-la the G6 GTP.

So anyways... just go with a short-ram intake... looks like the first tube and MAF are in the right position on the G6 to fit a Cobalt 2.2/2.4 short-ram. Any CAI attempt probably won't work at all.
