adjusting tensioner?

adjusting tensioner?
Is there any way to adjust the tensioner? I just added a sc kit and the belt is loose as hell but im pretty sure its the tensioner that isnt right. I had a easy time removing the stock belt kinda just pulled it out with no force and the new belt I put on went in with a little force n stuff. But yeah when I pull the tensioner up with enough strength it moves up...hoping maybe someone can enlighten me on what to do.

Only if you buy the adjustable tensioner. The stock one isn't adjustable. Either the tensioner is bad or the belt is too small. What size pulley are you running and what belt? Also if you can pull up on the tensioner it is probably bad. That shock-like thing should extend itself all the way out on its own

Not sure what belt I have...lol bought someones zzp s2 kit and well it doesnt say on the zzp site what belt comes with it haha. Has a 3.1 pulley. So the tensioner is bad? Know how much it would be to get that fixed? I thought they would move up a bit. On Becks supercharge 2.4 walkthrough the guy talks about being able to lift the tensioner a bit in order to get the stock belt out.

Not sure if you use the same tensioner as the lsj when you base model guys go sc. I have a zzp adjustable tensioner for sale. Went turbo no longer need it. The price is $75 shipped. PayPal is mackerso@nyit.edu, can ship out Wednesday if money sent before 12pm. I would re-use the tensioner pulley you have bc mine is chipped, worked fine didn't chew up my belt just doesn't look pretty. Check my for sale thread for pics

The zzp kit uses the stock tensioner and a longer 5 rib belt, not the lsj setup. The tensioner is spring loaded. On the side there is a square hole for a 3/8" drive. turn it counter clockwise, it should be firm with spring tension, if it is not then it is bad. A new one is over $100. I have one that has less than 500 miles on it for a good price. Pm if interested.

well i got a tool to go in there and when i try and turn counterclockwise its firm but when applying more pressure to it the tensioner lifts up instead of having that thing turn. I cant turn the tool any more because its too long and hits with other **** so im stuck with just being able to lift the tensioner a little and thats it. Any idea how to make this thing turn? Doesnt seem like it turns at all its just there for lifting the tensioner to release the belt or something

yea i'd say you might need the stage 2 belt if it didn't come with it... not sure without seeing it. fair warning though, have a socket wrench handy because taking out the tensioner/putting in a new one is a complete PITA without it. ask me how i know

im thinking my tensioner isnt tightened enough? The stock belt was easy as hell to take off. I just put my hand in there and grabbed the belt and it came off. I guess how youre saying to use a ratchet would work but I cant find one that is thin enough to get in there and the serpentine belt removal tool that I rented from autozone is the only thing thin enough to get in there but the thing is so long that it doesnt give me any room to turn because it hits the frame and other stuff.

Yes that is what you need to do.
Go to sears or a hardware store and pick up a 3/8" breaker bar that is about 12-15" long(I didn't say ratchet). That will work for sure. If you are not sure if the tensioner is tight there is a 15mm bolt that you access through a hole in the wheel well.

the bolt is tightened and I have the breaker bar thing so not really sure what youre tellling me to do here...I lift the thing up with the breaker bar then tighten the bolt more? Everything is in place the belt is just real loose..

well i got it from a member on here that was running what im running except he was using 42s instead of 60s. He ran the setup for like a year without any problems so i think the belt was right. Im just going to have to take it to a mechanic or something because I've tried everything I can think of and its either the belt or the tensioner.

Didn't realize you were running the ZZP kit when I first posted. Don't take it to a mechanic though as since it's a custom kit they will have no idea what they are working with. Tensioner sounds ok since you are using the stock one. I'd email ZZP with the part number on the belt and ask them if it's the right one.
