Another plan to build a cobalt up

So after riding in my friends Turbo charged '94 hatchback Civic last night I decided I want to start getting ready to build my Cobalt 2.4L up. I'm gonna try to have some fun with this one and spend way more cash then justifiable but in the end it will be fun and give me something to brag about (hopefully)!!!!! I want to turbo charge my car just like everyone else so I'm gonna go about doing the work mostly myself, and reading a lot of your posts around here. I'll probably start researching everything over the next year and start my build next year sometime.

I'm doing it so I can learn and have some fun buildin my own car so here is my thought on what I want to do. I want to get an engine block and build it up so it can easily handle even a twin charger kit, I am leaning towards twin charging it. So I want to build an engine that will handle up to 500 HP without problems. I'm would like to find a site that sells a better 2.4L engine block if there is one. This way I can Bore it a little if I want and put in better pistons and everything. Its all research I gotta do though so i can learn what I'm doing. If I go with the twin charger kit I'll get it from ZZP. But If I go with just a turbo charger i'll try to build that one myself. As I said before, I want to learn and have fun with this, so I'm leaning towards my own turbo build up. I'll work on buying Hp Tuners during that time as well and learnign how to tune as well. Don't worry, I won't do any WOT testing until I'm sure my tuning skills are on track. And lastly, my good 'ole Chevy 5 speed tranny. If at all possible I would like to look into getting a 6 speed tranny when the time comes. Or some kind of tranny build up to make it more appropriate for the power. I want a higher rev limit then 7100, I'd like an 8000 red line.

If any of this is at all impossible please speak up and say so, but I don't want any negative comments, just truthful ones. I understand quite a bit and can do most of my car work. But this is all new stuff, as it was to many of you. If you have any websites you would like to post up I'll check them out. If you have some recommendations those are welcome as well. I have visual mods in mind but those are irrelevant to the point of thsi post.

Sorry my thread isn't as exciting as some of the other guys where they start right off jumping into their project. I'm not gonna have any direct physical help while working on this but this is more of a heads up saying I'm gonna be asking questions.

I will make up on of those "Mybuild posts" When I start working on it. I printed off a few things the other day to start reading about the ecotec motor and what to do to it to make it handle the higher amounts of power just fine.

If you're considering building it yourself without anyone's help, it's going to take a little while...and it's going to be frustrating...especially if you're not a mechanic...but let me tell you this....it's loads of fun...good luck with everything

I've done a lot of my own mechanical work on my cars, until I started buying cars with warranties I've just never had my hands as far as completely rebuilding/ building up an engine for performance purposes. The furthest I have ever been down into an engine is the head gaskets, I have swapped out an nengine and tranny though But that's where the fun and frustration comes in. i'm looking forward to it, but then again I know how much my Ford Ranger pisses me off (I had to take my oil filter off in order to change out my starter...Poor design)

Yeah i'm trying to decide on whether I should do the valvetrain, camshafts, and pistons myself...I'm a little iffy haha and may shell out the money to have it done from a professional..since I have never ever done that stuff myself...although I did do vavles and valve springs and rocker arms etc in two v8's but that's all the experience I have..

Yeah I hear ya... I'm gonna try to do it myself and if I can, get a friend to look stuff over. Good luck with your final product though.

an 8k redline seems a little high? the only reasons hondas rev so high is they have a shorter stroke? at least thats what i was under the impression of. check out http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...-P329C128.aspx its a ecotech race block, dunno if thats what your lookin at but i know there was another site that had pretty decent parts and might of had a block or at least heads or something
