Auto to manual

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I am really, REALLY determined to change me automatic to manual. SO... I want your advice on this. I am not going to trade my car in, this is the car im stuck with so just trading it for a manual. My stepdad owns a junkyard, so finding cheap parts would be easy. He also has a shop there with a lift and plenty of air tools and has a lot of knowledge about the inner workings of a car. So, is it just illogical to do this? I'd like yalls advice!

Just sell the car and buy a manual. It will cost you less and be less of a hassle. This isn't an old muscle car where you can swap whatever you want without any issue, swapping a manual tranny in would involve a TON of fab work.

To answer your question... yes it is illogical to do it. Just buy a manual... Cobalts can be had for dirt cheap.

Why is it the car you're stuck with? I would have refused to accept an autotragic.

Stronger internals, stronger case, no worries about burning up the clutch...

more drivetrain loss, slower acceleration, less control, less gearing, less fun, more cost.

all of these things would not be a problem if you know how to drive your car.

really? We're talking cobalts here lol.... the auto runs SIGNIFICANTLY slower. no chance they're better at drag racing.

yea, but we're not talking about other cars. In that sense, I agree. Autos are better mainly for consistency between runs, not for being faster. Perfect for bracket racing.

In many new cars, the autos are actually faster. But majority of autos are still going to be slower than the manual version of the same car.

This is a Cobalt, GM's compact economy car. I think you may have gotten it confused with a 69 Camaro.

My helpful, money-saving ideas passed on to YOU! are as follows:

1. Sell automatic delta body vehicle
2. Drop an anvil on your head for thinking about such asinine ideas
3. purchase manual transmission delta body vehicle
4. enjoy

Tune the auto tranny for the cobalt and it will shift quicker than the manual can.

Best post evarr and 100% trooof. Having owned my 5-spd SS for the better part of a year now, it's safe to say I will never buy another automatic car again. EVER. With the exception of like an E-gear Gallardo if I could ever afford one. Driving an auto now it feels like I have no control of the car.

yea, but that still doesn't make it anywhere near as fast. You still have much more drivetrain loss, and worse gearing. It's not just the shift speed here, it still has 1 less gear which is going to make a big difference.

wrong. why? I'll say it again. They make less power, and have worse gearing. That means they do not accelerate as fast.
