auto to manual?
so i have an auto 06 cobalt.. im considering getting it turbocharged but it would be pretty lame if it was still an auto.. so i was wondering if anyone here has swapped theyre auto tranny for stick? can it be done?

lame? holding boost, quicker shifts, faster times, and a stronger trans is lame? convert to a 5 speed! no one has ever done it. No one knows any thing about it.
this is all you'll get from css.net

I would rather have the manual myself, but thats me. I dont feel like im driving the car with an auto. More like just pushing thre peddles. Id rather have full control over my car. But I have no idea how hard it would be to convert. Im sure its not going to be fun tho.

And like someone else already said, the swap is to expensive to be worth it. the pros of keeping the auto totally out weigh the cons of it.

I have done the research and what these guys say is the truth. By the time you get all the parts together and put in all the labor, you will have spent the amount nearly equivilant to buying a used SS/SC.
If your dead set on doing it, find a wrecked base model from 05 or 06 with a good trans and buy the whole car as a "donor" car. Also invest in a head shrink cause you will need it.......

You're probably better off trading your cobalt auto for a manual one. It's going to be too costly and troublesome to do a swap. I've never heard of or seen it done before on a balt, so you'll most likely run into problems and headaches.

Nothing is lame about an auto turbo. It's better than a turbo'd manual. Auto eliminates driving error and allows you to keep spooling and creating boost, instead of losing it everytime you have to let off the gas to shift. Nothing lame about constant power to me...

Well if your that content on doing it get a donor car. The project would take a few days maybe a few weeks if you do it your self.
As long as you have a donor you'll have practically everything you'll need, minus the mounts as they are different between the auto and manual cars. You'll have to grind off the old mounts and get ones for the manual trans welded on in the correct location.
Thats really the only difficult part, of course as long as you have a donor car to get the rest of the parts from.

I inquired about this before.. But yes, auto is actually better for turbo..
Regardless, it'd likely be extensive.. I'm sure it could be done, but you'd need a whole parts car.. A parts car with a tranny, ecu, pedals, etc.. You're better to have a complete car so that everything's there.. Any anymore, you can likely buy a complete junked Cobalt pretty cheap.. But no, it's not like a Honda where you can do this swap for 500 bucks..
