best header/exhaust combo

hey 'balters...
what is the best sounding header/exhaust combo? before you rip my cyber face off...the only thing i could find was one person put the (i think) zzp on with the stock exhaust. i do want civil not obnxs sound. what combo yields the most HP? if i could not afford both, would it be better to have header and downpipe with stock exhaust OR vise versa? (HP gains/sound match) - i have a 08' sport (manual)

thanks for not flaming in advance

We have our mid-length 1-1/2" headers and 2.5" catless downpipe combo on our '06 2.4 auto that we have been dyno testing. The mid-length header really made the exhaust sound better, especially through the mid-range where it gained a lot of torque.

There is a write-up on the site: https://www.zzperformance.com/cobalt...ws1.php?id=175

Gain from the mid-length combo was about 7 whp vs. stock mani/DP.

pacesetter no cat and flow master... ok not really,

it sounds at idle , almost v8 sounding, the midlenght header gives the exhaust a nice loap and low rumble at idle and low rpm cursing , but once the tap is opened its raspy and and buzzy as hell. im sure the buzz comes from the flowmaster, becasue it use to do it before i got the header and cat delete, im hoping a glass pack mufflers will help with both the rasp and buzz, more so the buzz, i don't mind the rasp as much.

I'm not sure what other brands sound like, but I'm gonna agree with Matt that midleangth or long tube header(s) are gonna do the most for sound and performance
