Cat or Catless redone !!!!!

**** there is so many threads on this subject but none give a direct answer every single one goes on a tangent about some other incoherent matter lmao

Back on track - I've heard lots of mixed information some say having a Cat and not having a cat is only like a 1hp difference...others swear theres 10+hp hidden in by a cat ...... and assume emissions is not a matter because thats were half of the misleading info keeps coming from ......So Plain and Simple is there Power to be gained from going catless .???

the cat is a restriction. how much depends on what cat. if you select the right one for your application, then it shouldnt rob you of much power

All things else being equal...

Between catless and the cheap, mass produced stock convertor there's probably 10+ whp to be had.

Between catless and a quality, high flow aftermarket convertor there's probably less than 2-3 whp to be had.

Edit: Oops... I was basing my figures on the 2.0 LSJ. Probably about half that on an n/a engine.

I figured it makes sense in a physics point of view ... i just want to make sure ...anyway alot of my coby ss/sc friends over here in vegas told me going catless netted them some honest power up top ....... Iam assuming you did aswell or were you never catted ???

that "cheap mass produced stock convertor" your talking about, is already the same as the "quality, high flow aftermarket convertor" you can buy.

Newer catalytic converters are already "high flow"

Read This Article!! The Low Down On Cat Vs No Cat

This may help you decide, personally I would rather have a exhaust with a good hi flow cat, for a couple of reasons 1. its quiter 2. no CELs 3. Legal 4. not much performance loss due to catless

Just my $0.02

GREAT ARTICLE

I would never go catless on a street car but I do plan on going with a bigger high flow cat in the near future to replace my small stock one.

Haha this thread is making me laugh, me and a buddy went to a dyno mack in June are mods are the same except I have a HFC and he is catless. He only put one more HP down then me. I put down 164 and he put down 165, I'll post the dyno graphs when I get home and prove it!!!

10 more HP between catless and catted, you guys crack me up hahahaha

I think you just proved my catless vs high flow guess right, didn't you? I said 2-3 whp at LSJ power levels, and you just came up with 1 whp with LE5 numbers. Unless by HFC you mean you're still using the stock unit?

My catless vs stock convertor guess could be way off though.

There are some dyno results of stock vs aftermarket cats at Random Tech. The 300ZX & Supra they use are 12-15 years old though.

When all is said and done, I'll be running a catalytic converter on my aftermarket downpipe next summer.

im running an xtc hfc and my buddy was running an xtc catless pipe both were 2.5 only difference is I had a cat and he did not. I dont know about the stock cat though

Here is with no Cat

and yea I know you are going to say something about the A/F, they put the sniffer in the wrong tail pipe since he has duels his AEM WB was at a 13.1 @ WOT
But for some reason he was getting alot of KR on his second run dunno

And here is mine with a cat

Showing the dyno sheet of 2 different cars even if they are the exact same model proves nothing for all we know your car could have come from the factory with 5-10 more hp than his or visa versa. unless you had a previous dyno sheet stating each cars starting point there is no way to know how much each car gained or lost.

If you wanted no cat, get no cat.

You want a HFC, then get one, because no one can agree on anything around here...

Id like to see a dyno of an ss/sc stock, and then catless.

all the dynos so far have to many variables involved.
you cant compare mods on two separate vehicles.

i can show you a stock ss/sc dyno 225,
and an ss/sc with stage 2 dyno 230.

does that mean stage 2 is only worth 5whp?

Exactly...

And who's gonna waste their time not getting rid of the bottlenecking step down whatchamacallit at the end of the downpipe if they ditch the cat? Not me!
