Cleaning for more power

Ok I used to do this every few months or so on my dirtbike, I'd take apart all the carb parts and everything that had to do with airflow and cleaned it all with carb cleaner and etc and it always came back out running like a king.

I was wondering if I can take apart a few things on the Cobalt and give it a good clean and expect to see and super minor gains and mildly better throttle response, you know little stuff that makes you feel good inside, lol. Anyway, thanks for the help

Clean your throttle body, that's def something that could bring back a noticeable difference

best way is to take it completely off the car (only 4 bolts). Then get some good tb cleaner and have at it

That idle air hole gets gunk on it from the crankcase breather

yeah there was a decent amount of grease looking stuff and some fine particles, cleaned it all out and rerouted my CAI for more airflow and reset my ECU so itll reprogram itself for the new setup

You can lose power from a dirty MAF sensor or throttle body

i think i will, hold on a minute. people keep asking me lol thats why i put in my sig "(dont ask)". ha ha

basic GMPP short ram up to MAF sensor

stainless steel elbows and connectors from Summit Racing leading the short ram into a CAI down into the bumper

down through the air intake hole

down to the bottom of the bumper with a Fujita F5 filter

when my front bumper got backed into last year by a truck this little triangular hole was loose so i just removed it

which in turn increased the airflow a good bit to the air filter and made it SUPER LOUD, as loud as my Megan 2.5 catback sometimes even louder....

pretty sick "custom" mod that gave me good gains, about 7whp"ish". i lost my tune and my car was slow because of it, then this setup was put together and it seemed like i got all of that power back, my track times and my Dashhawk times are more or less the same. and i STILL dont have a tune, but i cant wait to get one with this new intake, I might see decent gains better than my last tune.

Very awesome you did that, I was wondering about a ram air design for my CAI, but with Florida rains....very bad, with my AEM DryFlow I went through 4 MAF's....so I put the Injen filter back on and no problems. And as for cleaning, Sea Foam is awesome, but you will smoke a lil bit for a week or so cause of it cleaning. And when I change my oil I always of course clean oil filter, Shell fuel system cleaner, clean the air filter, spray down all the sensors MAF, Oxygen, all them with electrical parts cleaner. I always notice a much smoother idle. And every 3rd oil change I clean the plugs.

we have the same if not worse rains in georgia. its never constant or steady, its either a frickin huge thunder or rainstorm or its sunny skies. ive never had a problem with my air filter getting wet so you should be fine. my wheel well even used to be torn all up and it would never get wet.

Ok so this piece just comes right out, I never really looked at it. And I also wanna get say a piece of 1" aluminum flat bar for stability if I do take it out, I would assume with out the plastic piece it has a lot of movement.

i was just curious as to how bad it would be if the filter got nailed with water? becuase that ram air design seems like a good idea.

it would have to be a good bit of water, on our cars its pretty tough to get the filter drenched in that spot. you would have to smash through some ridiculous 2 foot TALL puddle lol. but yes it would be bad if that happened, but unlikely where i live. i accidentally get it a little wet sometimes while cleaning the car and it still runs fine right after

That's how my CAI goes down and when it rains the filter gets a little wet from those inserts in the bumper but it doesn't affect the performance.

i agree with everybody else on cleaning the throttle body. and in regards to water getting in the intake it would take a huge puddle to do any real damage but better to be safe then sorry and just take it easy when driving in the rain. that's what i do. and i've driven in some pretty crazy rain because i had to but i never went about 2500rpm
