Coba Gets Built, Build Thread 2.4 s256
I have had my car three years and am growing tired of the current power. I bought this car as a one owner with 48,000 miles on it three years ago
Over all a great little motor, good torque, fun to drive, and quick for its current power.
But its time for the good ****.
Parts will be everything from the zzp 2.4 turbo kit with the s256
I know im not piecing it together like some of the legends around the forum.
But it will still be fun and fulfilling, while getting good hands on experience.
My general idea is to just use the claimed "forged" 06-07 LE5 from my local scrapyard for about $600.
I will install a fresh timing set, arp head studs, and ZZP 82# valve springs with titanium retainers to help the motor take the abuse.
While the "forged" stock bottom end motor is in, im going to start building my motor in my barn.
Buying occasional parts and making it into a better motor for the power levels I want.
Current motor getting built while the stock forged one is in should look something like this.
-ZZP forged and coated pistons for LE5
-ZZP 4340 connecting rods
-new rod and main bearings
-new timing set
-ZZP balance shaft delete
-arp head studs
-ZZP 2.4 cam shafts
-82# ZZP valve springs and titanium retainers
-New rocker arms, valve seals, lash adjusters, valve locks
-ATI ecotec super dampener, under drive
-more things im probably over looking, piston rings, over sized radiator ect..
Depending on how much all this costs together I may just go zzp girdled block for $2000 and do a similar setup on that but with a lot more confidence in its abilities.
This will all be important after im ready for the turbo kit in 3-5 months.
Build Goals:
400whp
Consistent 12sec passes
humiliator
good handling
Will be piecing it together over time.
Its turbo time!!
(eventually..)
Here the first parts I have just purchased.

Thanks man, good luck with your tvs setup
Will keep this up to date. I should be getting an 06-07 motor early april to get ready to go in.
you have a k04 right? Hows that working for you? I just worry about the transmission taking to much abuse from the instant torque. Hope it works out for you man!

I did a twin scroll delete so it spools slower, but i have a better setup on the way.

Should be getting the car back today.
New master slave cylinder because he couldn't get it to bleed, new control arm bushings but I will eventually go to powell trailing bushings.
Just had him do the bushings because he practically did it for nothing.
New axle seals installed.
New differential bearings, and a few other little things.
Car should be great when I get it back. Pretty stoked

Car drove amazing when I got it back. Aluminum flywheels are amazing, definitely worth it.
I was out breaking in the clutch, and on an easy downshift from 3-2. The clutch stopped wanting to work.
Felt like nothing was there.
Long story short got stranded on the side of the road. Towed it back to his place.
Today he let me know the slave cylinder had blown.
I had thought he replaced it but he decided against it.
Are there any after market slave cylinders available? Has anyone ever had this happen when going to a higher # pressure plate, and needed an upgrade slave cylinder?
Never heard of this happening, any help appreciated

Should have got zzp adjustable rod for master cylinder they deal with manufacturer to change some specs on pressure plates to help with stuff like that and pedal feel

Now I have to pay to have the trans dropped and a new tob installed.. again..
Sadly I wasn't aware of these issues with the tob when I decided to start this.
Hopefully it works out
Should get the car back today or tomorrow.
Your lucky man, tob issues are the worst.
Car was so reliable before this. Its making me second guess but this is what I want from it.
Cars being gone almost two weeks now :/
Thanks, I thought I had it planned out well, but then the tob issues started.
I just hope it is as reliable as it was since I have had the car.
Its always being super reliable for me the last three years until now. Second guessing a bit. If the tob goes again ill be really questioning this.
S/C 2.4 would definitely make a fun dd. Good luck

Got the car back
200 city miles on the clutch in the last two days.
Car drives great.
If this keeps up I should be ready for the s256 zzp kit in 3-5 months
Hope it keeps working perfect like it has the last two days.
Coilovers should be around the corner 1-2 months.
Pictures soon

Took pictures today, hopefully coilovers soon
Got some good picture today
Taken with galaxy s5, not bad
Bought this car as one owner 3 years ago
Got smoked headlights, so when they are off they are hardly visible. Wouldn't have bought them if they were not smoked tint. I know they will never be hid's but they get the job done for me. My other headlights started fogging up.
New smoked led tails, they look pretty good. Im ok with it for the price
