I have a set of coils that I am using on a ecotec project with a standalone ECU. I have the coils wired correctly as they all will spark correctly. My ecu has a test function that will test all the coils by just randomly firing them when the engine is not running. When I test the coils they seem to get very very hot. Do the coil on plugs in the stock setup get warm? Does anyone have details on the setup for the coils, such as coil on time and coil dead time?

 

are you sure they are firing? and did yout est the Kv output?

 

They are definitely firing, pulled them out one by one and connected up a spare plug grounded to the head and watched the spark jump the gap. It was a very strong spark from the look of it.
