go custom? get a magnaflow race series muffler and have a shop weld up exhaust, thats what i did...and i get nothing but complements. It cost me a grand total of 175 for everything instead of a 600 dollar catback

Borla = GMPP. Borla makes the GMPP cat-backs so im willing to bet they are nearly identical. Kinda like with the new Caliber SRT-4s.....the AEM and Mopar intakes are identical save for the filter and the engraving on top of the airbox. But of course the Mopar costs like $50 more b/c it won't void the warranty.

Ding..Ding...Ding we have a weinnr. GM had Borla make there catbacks for the cobalt there are identical. except for the stamp on the muffler saying GMPP instead of Borla. Just like AEM and the Mopar stuff.

hate to break it to ya, but its not your muffler causing the bad noise....
its the fact that your DP is on the large side for your exhaust output, and you are getting resonance, which is often tempered by a cat, which you do not have.

I was so close all I had to do was sign my name on the peice of paper and I would have had a CSRT-4 two weeks ago. But I think if I was to get rid of the Ion I would trade it in on the SS/TC better looking car IMHO, but I still love driving the CSRT it is an blast turn off the ESP and roast first and second gear.

its due to the lack of cat yes, but the shitty 3" muffler is not helping one bit, i bet 100 bucks if i tossed stock muffler back on there it would quiet it down a hell of alot.

its really really bad, really really loud, like...a friend working a dealership that is about a football field away from the highway was able to hear me coming, looked outside the shop..and saw me passed..and continued to hear me down the highway..its rediculous...

Yeah, the deciding factor for me is the Calber is a sedan, and im sick of only having 2 doors. Plus, its just something completely different. The SS/TC's look just like the old Cobalts.....I considered getting one, but it'd feel too "the same" to me, ya know? But heres whats in store for the Caliber when I get it:

At first I was considering keeping the warranty on this one........pff....nah. Mind you though, i'll be in SC when I get this car (this coming spring), and ANYTHING goes there. They don't even have inspection, lol.

Exhaust Depot turbo-back side-exit exhaust (3", no cat, no res, no muffler)
Exhaust Depot 3" SRI
Exhaust Depot "Beast" front mount intercooler w/ BOV flange + HKS BOV
BC full coilovers
MPx shorty antenna
19"x8.5" Axis Hiros (silver) w/ stock rubber
limo tint

Thats about as far as i've gotten. Of course i'll research more, mainly along the lines of a supplemental fuel system and more boost. Of course the car will also likely wind up with aftermarket rotors/pads and a short throw too.

see anything with a cat is going to sound better then mine without..if you have a cat..it is kind of pointless to tell me your setup

the mainproblem here is..i dont have a cat..im not going to get a cat...so i need a good exhaust that sounds good with no cat downpipe.

just sayin. didn't know you didn't want a cat, just read the first couple of posts.

i've actually never heard a setup with an aftermarket dp w/ no cat. is it really that big of a difference?

try for something that may muffle the raspy sound a bit? gmpp touring isn't as loud as the performance and you'll get the same numbers

Just make sure you get a 2.5 in resonator, and a decent 2.5 inch muffler.

You probably could get away with the GMPP touring.

Be aware though that even with that, you will be a smidgen loud.

Nothing crazy, think magnaflow.
