Angry Damage to engine???????

Well got new weather tech rubber floor mats the other day and today while is was driving i decided to get on the pedal for a bit. Went wot from second to fifth, well the gas pedal got stuck UNDER the floor mat while i was in fourth, didnt notice it so i shifted into fifth. When it came time to let off, the pedal was wot. I freaked out, shifted into netural and it took about 4-5 seconds for me to figure out what was happening and i pulled the mat back. The problem is that the engine hit the rev limiter for about 4 seconds when the car was in netural. i know i should have left it in fifth but i freaked. How bad is this for the motor, think anything was harmed? Kinda worried about this, everything sounds fine, no cel and car runs perfect. Thoughts please.

If it's not making any knocking to ticking noises, its all right. I have the same problems with my drivers side mat, only it get caught up in the clutch.

Yeah thats what the limiter is for, so you don't blow the motor

ok, i was just uncertain how harmfull it is to allow the engine to hit the limiter for a period of time. When you put it into perspective it wasn't for 30 seconds or anything like that

Pick up a set of the GM rubber mats. They are great!

if my Cobalt can endure a 2 mile long dirt road full of holes, snow, ice, plus drag racing, missed shifts, multiple CEL's due to engine mods, and long commutes on a daily basis, then yours should be swell.

I've seen autocrossers run it up on the rev limiter and leave it there for quite some time while racing. Often shifting to 2nd and back down to 1st between gates takes too much time, so they leave it in first.

Porsche had the first "soft fail" rev limiters - they sounded like the tune went sour when they hit the limiter and started randomly spitting and sputtering. Early Japanese rev limiters shut the engine off for a period, so it didn't come back for a while (not good when autocrossing - bumping it by accident meant no power for a second or two, and in autocrossing where wins are in hundredths of a second, that means "you loose."

I wouldn't run an engine up on the rev limiter with no load on purpose, but only once you should be fine. I'm sure you know that the next time that happens, reach down and turn off the key without hitting the clutch. I had an old Corvair with a Buick 455 where the back seat should be do that to me, and I drove it back by hitting the key off and on. WAAAA-uhhhhhhh-WAAAAAA-uhhhhhh!

Dont stress it. The rev limiter is there so you can bounce it off it like nobodies business and it'll keep on runnin.

But if your worried about it, take it to GM and do warranty work.

It's not good to bang on the rev limiter for a long time... but you should be alright... just be careful next time.

Yeah I hit the rev limiter today on my way home from work. I was behind an SRT4 and I knew he could do better then the 70 he was doin. I just couldn figure out why he wasnt hittin it. So a break in the traffic and I bang it down to 4th and take off. Anyway... later on down the road he flys by me and Im like NICE... just wanted to see what it his car could do. we pulled next to eachother and complimented eachother.. told him mine was Stock. He was like Damn... so he takes off I follow in 2nd. (Thought I was in 4th) and I mash it the it bucks like a bitch I look down 7K. Freaked me the hell out. babied it the rest of the way home... Sorry I rambled....
