Did i just lower performance?!

Ahh benefit of the doubt dude. In all honestly I don't think it's that. I think it's the fact that this is a very popular car among the younger crowd because of the price and things like that. And a lot of these new members are probably pretty young. You'd be surprised how many people don't even realize there's an SS version of the Cobalt. It's really an entry-level tuner and most people don't realize it until it's been sitting in their driveway for a few months and they Google search it out of boredom.
If they're anything like me, their Cobalt/G5 is what GOT them into car modification in the first place. Give the poor guy the benefit of the doubt lol.

This.
If an exhaust tech working on my car said that I would have told him to lower the car, and I'll take it some place else. It just shows how little the guy knows about exhaust systems, and/or he was acting dumb so you would purchase a more expensive muffler.

hey, so today i was just at a shop putting in a cherrybomb glasspack (bigger dimensions than stock exhaust), its slightly bigger than the stock exhaust, this one has a inlet of 2.5 and an outlet of 2.5 as opposed to the 2 1/4" of the stock muffler. so half way putting it in, i started a conversation with a mechanic there and he started rambling to me about how by putting on the bigger straighter design, im losing a large amount of fuel economy and that i am losing ALOT of horsepower, he then started suggesting all these other mufflers. i became very distraught and now am worried if i have lost all that power and fuel economy... any inputs? (i only put this in temporarily because i eventually want to replace the whole exhaust system)
your engine is now breathing easier.

Yeah your fine. My average mpg untuned with a 2.5 catback exhaust and header (stock downpipe) has slightly increased. My lowend and top end both improved as well. I went from a brief squeal of 205/50/17s to a good 3 to 5 feet worth of tire spin on summer tire 235/40/18s and im a 2.4 auto. And im pulling some of my honda friends uptop (one ran 15.4 the other 15.5)
So short answer which has already been stated...
No you didnt do anything but make your car louder.

You cant put larger injectors on this car unless your tuned, and honestly unless your going forced induction larger injectors are not needed. Also you should get a header and downpipe for your next mod.

I had a similar situation with a "mechanic" friend. He told me to stop putting premium gas in my 2.4 because he said it was designed for 87 only (despite the fact that I told him I felt a difference). Turns out the manual said the exact opposite of what he said. Lesson I learned: sometimes the best judge is yourself (and sometimes the manual.)
as far as the exhaust, i personally wouldn't have put a glass pack on but most aftermarket systems are going to help you not hurt you, that is if you can keep your foot off the pedal cuz you love hearing that sound.
