exhaust manifold flange

just a curiosity question, is the exhaust flange for the 2.4vvt the same as for the 2.2 eco? if it is, the Saab turbo out of the 9.3 is a direct bolt on. trying to get an idea of where to head for a turbo setup. Not a fan of complete turbo kits, as they are usually way more expensive than the sum of the parts. If not, I know a shop local to me that will laser cut flanges for custom turbo mani's, if anyone is interested. As far as engine management, at this point a standalone is going to be the way to go, something like the Megasquirt, also has anyone thought to check and see if a vtec controller will work with the 2.4's vvt setup? might be something to look into. I am definitely going turbo, and honestly at this point it is looking like a base Cobalt might be a better option for me, then upgrade from there, as the 2.2 eco is already a proven engine with countless upgrades for it on the market. If you want to rebuild the internals to handle boost, also you can always go with custom pieces, a little more expensive, but you are getting quality parts here. JE pistons will custom make any piston for you, Crower rods the same, as will Comp or Crane cams. A little money and ingenuity will go a long way. It wasn't that long ago that I was dealing with the same issues with a Cavy, now look at the aftermarket support it has, unless we are proactive with these cars and start the R&D ourselves, the aftermarket isn't going to throw parts at us, we need to pursue new items and possibly retrofit parts not nessisarily made for the Cobalt. Just my 2 cents

Yes the flanges are the same. No need for a standalone w/ a 2.4 Since your from MI, check out vector motorsports in sterling heights, MI they've done many boosted 2.4's, or you could also custom tune with hptuners. And also the 2.2 cobalt ecu's so far are un cracked.

the only problem I see with a retuned ecu is the fact that it will be retuned for one boost setting, and if I want to change the boost, I have to reflash the ecu again, that would be a pain for wanting to run say 15 psi on the street but up it to 20-23 psi at the track. Nice to hear the exhaust flange is the same, that means cheaper alternatives to the Hahn kit are easily reached. Do you happen to have the contact info for Vector? this winter looks to be a busy time for me doing a lot of R&D on some new ideas I have for this project, along with possibly custom making some lips and such, sense there doesn't seem to be a huge selection out there. I will keep everyone informed, as soon as I get back to work (medical leave, recovering from cancer surgery), and purchase my car.

Their is a member on here GTPprix his name is chris and he works for vector he'll help you out. If you want to run multiple boost levels and get the most out of both settings then hptuners will definatly be for you, one tune for the track and one for the street.
