Friends auto SS is faster than my GT?

Hey guys, I've had my G5 GT for a few months now. It came with GMPP intake and i just did the spark plugs and put some Mobile 1 oil in it. Point is, it's taken care of and runs great. I get on it once in a while however, my friend has an auto ss, 2006. Obviously the 2.4L as well. Mine is 2007. I drove hers tonight and the thing freaking flies. I don't know if it's because i'm shifting slower than her auto shifts or what but when i press down on the gas, the down shift and torque pins me back, unlike in my G5. Do you think it's in my head? I heard I should be able to chirp the tires in second gear, but I can't do that either. Just throwing this out there for convo.

Similar horsepower. Different gearing. I used to destroy other manual LE5s off the line but they end up winning on the top end.

If my memory serves, I could chirp as NA 2.4 in 2nd, all I had was k and n typhoon.

If I remember right 4800-5500 was peak power for me when I was NA, try and keep your revs around 5k in 2nd/3rd for the most output.

All things being equal, the F23 takes less torque to rotate than the 4T45, so the 5 speed will edge out on wheel TQ/HP

Guessing the auto shifts better than you/grass is greener on the other side

For pulls, stay @ 4800-5000 in 2nd/3rd than WOT to 3rd/4th respectively. You want a bit of torque lead up until 5252

Also, as far as chirping tires, it's not a bad thing if you can't, you could just have really good tires :P

In theory they should be the same, if anything an advantage to your car since its a manual (less drivetrain hp loss).
It could most likely be all in your head since the auto and manuals obviously drive different. I know it feels like my gfs car (06 SS/NA auto) has more pep then mine but I know theyre basically the same.

whats the weight difference if there is any at all? could be another thing......

Provided both are coupes with 2.4s there should ne no weight difference really

Hers isn't tuned.

Mine however! Has not been tuned by me but I don't have a rev limiter. I can rev all the way to redline in neutral and have hit redline racing a Honda and then the engine just stopped and wound itself down. Can I pull a file to check for a tune?

So are you saying I should get up to about 5k then shift or shift at about 6k to land me I to 5k in the next gear?

I launch my 2.2 at 3k when on the street and I have Goodyear Eagle GT tires. Chirp second and I think I'll like it better when I have a tune which is coming up in 8.5 days. Full suspension is in before autocross and I can't wait to install it this weekend.

So you do have a rev limit... If you didn't, there would be G5 pieces scattered on the ground.

Did you beat that Honda?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. If the RPM's stop at a certain point you have a rev limiter. If you didn't the engine would keep revving until something went wrong, I'd guess around 7.5k and you'd need at least new valves and most likely pistons. I'm bumping mine to 7k so I can shift when my tach shows 6.5k and I won't hit the limiter thanks to the lag.

Ugh, the torque pins you down? Do you have 0 muscles? Because less than 200 torques isn't going to pin you down at all. And you guys say he should walk her? If they did a 1/4 mile race the difference would be less than .5 of a second which is gonna happen a lot quicker than you expect so don't be telling him it's like racing a ferrari against a metro. And you obviously have a redline or rev limiter. I'm not sure you are fully aware what exactly a redline is though. If you can rev your car into the 8000 range then you might have it raised but you still have one. And chirping tires also has something to do with the tire itself. A less grippy less treaded more worn out tire will chirp more easily than a brand new one.

Also you more than likely have no aftermarket tuning done to the car at all. Not like you'd really need it either.

I guess I'm just used to revving and bouncing off a rev limiter and not having the engine drop my rpms down to almost idle.

I have eagle GTs.

Yeah I beat him. 2000 EX. Also beat a 3100 grand am the same day.

It wont drop to idle. Fuel comes back after you drop 200rpms below the limiter which is ~67-6800. I hit the limiter many times in my 2.4l hhr. Get back on the throttle or grab the next gear and you'll see.
