I don't know where people are getting this "the transmissions are weak" thing from.
Here's a link so you can read for yourself. Look at the specs for the gearbox maximum torque.

http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en...g%20trans.html

Notice how the tranny is the 2.0 SS/SC is beefed up to handle the extra power. Also notice how the auto tranny is rated higher because it's used on some GM V6 applications as well.

The specs listed are maximum for the tranny to enjoy a normal life period. The more power you add, the shorter life it will have. A supercharger probablt won't kill one right away but give it time.......

I find it funny how it says max torque is 205 yet there are people running around on Stage 2 and 3 upgrades and GM is ENCOURAGING it...

Read the specs again. Maximum engine torque lists the most powerful engine GM currently has connected to it. Gearbox torque is how much the gearbox can handle.

If you're referring to the 4t45e, it's maximum torque is 325lbs-ft. So both those stages are fine.

The Pontiac Sunbird was also available with a turbocharger.

Sorry you're right...misread that one but even still, those who are running those stage kits have to be at the limit or pass it.

Also, I dont know why people are so worried that their automatics can't handle the power when they are rated that high by GM. I dont know.

Anyways, thanks for the info and discussion. I'll bookmark that page.

I can't believe no one mentioned the 1989 Turbo Trans Am...basically the same powertrain as the GNX.

And Saab also has a 2.5 turbo 5-cyl, and of course there's the new Solstice / Sky turbo 2.0 engines.

I talked to the same guy today, and he says the supercharged 2.4 will be about 235hp he is not to sure about torque, asked him about the clutch and he said gm will warrenty all work but advise a clutch swap out, i guess they will not be warrenting the clutch is anybodys guess.P.s. I told him the little bit of a stir it caused here, he thought that was funny

alot of things are involved in making the internals capable of handling the power...not just pistons. You would probably want to get stronger rods with the forged pistons. You would also want to get head work done with alot of boost. Your tranny probably will roast with alot of power. You get what you pay for...remember that.

I thought that the gm book says that the pistons on the @.4 are forged to handle it?

Our pistons aren't forged only the rods are. And its not the fact that the pistons aren't forged but that the compression is to high to run more then 8psi safely.

I will be going by there next week, but I would not anticipate anything until the release of the G5 in the U.S.

could'nt agree with you more1 I'm sure gm will do this in the same fashion they did with the pontiac vibes and that is to provide a warrenty through them on install. and I only see this happening once the g5 is released in the states.
