High RPM mod questions
Hey guys I am thinking about moving on to my next mods which are an ATI balancer and the ZZP neutral balance shafts. I am already running the 2.4l ZZP cams and springs so I am covered with the valve train.
I know a lot of guys have done this mod to the 2.0l, but our shafts are a little larger/heavier and I was wondering if anyone has experience using NBS on our 2.4l. I am not too concerned with the drive-ability (vibes) unless a lot of people tell me its awful. I am currently revving 7200rpm and want to rev 7800. Is anyone taking our engine up that high?
Also I am running an M62. I know many people are pushing these engines to 350+hp on the stock bottom end. If I am revving that high (7800) w/boost, will I need forged rods/pistons? Or is the boost factor insignificant? I am trying to stay away from building the bottom end, but I am considering it as a winter project.
If anyone has experience with higher revving I would appreciate it if you'd share what your thoughts are and what mods you have done. Thanks.

i m not a 2.4 but im running my 2.2 cammed stock valvetrain at 8000rpm.
first and second is ok, something in third gear and never in 4th and 5th.
the problem is the tranny. synchros is a issue at that type of rpm.

Balance shaft weight according to ZZP.
So I can safely rev higher

yea I've read through that article, and I'm not sure if you noticed elsewhere on ZZPs site they mention actually deleting them. that's the path I took (glad I did), NBS sure would be easier to install, but I personally could not justify the hundreds of dollars for neutral ones. seems like you would benefit more from removing them than an LSJ would too. do some research on deleting them if you're looking to save some cash and rotating weight. otherwise, I've only read good things about the zzp NBS (except for their price ha ha)

Well I dind't exactly go with a "kit" like this one:
Level Zero Motorsports
or this one:
GMracing part XGH676
what I did was have my machinist cut off the out of balance part of the 2 balance shafts, and then just reinstalled the assembly. you need to block off the 2 rear oil galleys so to do that I used the two collars similar to the ones in the first link I just posted but they were solid and not hollow like those ones. I bought them off of blackbird racing, off ecotecforums.com

Yeah the zzp cams/springs were very noticeable but the power is higher by about 500 rpms. Top end is really good. The stock cams/springs felt flat after 6k and these rip to 7200. Thats part of the reason i would like to free up a little more hp and rev higher with the NBS.
