hmmm.....

with my new gmpp cai i was wondering if something like this would work...

what if you took the cone out of the little box thing it sits in and just let it sit free in the engine bay like this one? would it work? would you hear/feel anything noticeable? sorry for the dumb question if it is one but i was just wondering and have no idea haha.

i'd leave it alone. reminds me of the older ram air cars, they always had a small vent just in case. it does give you some low pressure cool air from the bumper area.

Is there a hole in the bottom of the "stupid box thing" that links up with the stock hole on that side ?

If you mean is the stock box ducted to the outside then yes. The lid gets changed and it hoks right to the factory bottom so it draws fresh air in from outside the engine compartment. Cooler air = more HP too so you actualy may want to kep the "stupid box thing" so it gets cool air instead of just hot engine compartment air.

I'd say if you wanted to do that then honestly you should have bought an INJEN intake. You would have saved money and had a cold air option.

But to answer your question, keep the box, don't risk the design

I was going to say the same thing. That box allows cool air to get in from underneath. Without that, you're going to get warm air from the engine instead.

Warm air = not good

actually, i think that one of the hoods that someone makes seals up with the top of that "stupid box thing" and then you'd have a functional hood scoop
that would be hot, or cool.. depending on how you looked at it.

Yea it'd be good if he had a hood with a scoop, otherwise its still sucking warm air

but, frankly, even if it did.. Cobalts are not the SPORT cars, and not POWER mosnters.. these cars are quick :-p

Do you really going to feel 2HP gain / loss? no.

Without a hood scoop it's sucking air from the fender well, not exactly "warm" (except for the gasket on the top of the GMPP intake box not sealing well to the hood blanket, which can be a problem). If you want air through a scoop, either buy the fiberglass hood that's set up for this or do your own (see the "how to" links in my signature - mine is fully functional through a scoop).
