How much torque for valve cover bolts?

Hi guys,

I will need to change my valve cover gasket and I want to know how much torque should I give to the bolts for the engine cover?

Do they need to be very tighten when I'll put the valve cover back on?

I know the bolts aren't the strongest so that's why I'm asking the question and I need to change the gasket because of oil bleeding on the passenger side.

Thank you!

Ha, yeah... I was going to say... not very much. I broke like 3 when I put my Valve cover back on.

Fkn idiot, I was. I snapped the first... and said, "Okay, not that much pressure". Then the second one snapped... and that's why my Fuse Box Cover is cracked. I think I yelled "God Damn It!" And slammed my hand on it. I then had to yell another GD.

Ok thanks! So basically, I don't need to put that much force to tighten the bolts right?

OK so I've been trying to figure this out myself for a while. I have both manuals Chilton and Haynes, and in both of them it lists the torque for valve cover on 2.0L as 71ft/lbs!! There's no way thats right is there? I broke 2 bolts already and I was no where near 71ft/lbs. The torque for the 2.2 and 2.4 is 89in/lbs. I'm no mathematician but thats a huge difference....
