I've yet to find someone with any insight on tuning our 2.4's with HP Tuners. Doc is currently asking some HHR guys who have possibly tuned their cars with the software to relay some info back to us. Hopefully if he can round up enough info and knoledge, he's gonna tune my car for me.

I have the upgraded tuning for the 2.4L's that is where the HHR guys are getting it from, as well as a couple SS guys.

tuning your 2.4L is just like any other car... theres not a whole lot outside of the multiphasing 5d VE matrix... but you dont need to worry about that.

start by reading up on the normal stuff-> maf, pe, spark

too bad your in AZ and i'm in VA, lol. I don't trust myself in tuning as i've never tuned a car via laptop, and i'd just rather someone with more experience do it than me end up messing something up.

I know where to start with the tuning, I just haven't had much success reading the 2.4's. I had to uninstall the whole program after I scanned a car.
If you don't mind, I'd appreciate some help with the 2.4. Something to start with that is.

I"ll email mail you after I play with his car and see what happens doc. He's like the only person with a 2.4ss that I know, so I"ve been trying to get him to bring the car in. I just mainly want to see the differences in the maps and such and do some tranny tuning, maybe bump up the timing alittle bit, since he's still stock, but that at least will give me a starting point.

I fully agree. Everyone's worried about the cams. Forget 'em. If you could change the cam switching point too, it would just be one more thing to get screwed up

Leave the cams alone and tune fuel. At WOT, the 2.4 is terribly rich on top (at least here in Denver - don't know how altitude compensation affects this). We picked up about a horse and a half just from a MAF corrector box and leaning out WOT top end by only 4 percent. Mine's running like 10.4:1 at WOT/redline. didn't check the duty cycle, but it has to be near 100% to be getting that much fuel in.

I'd be using HPTune right now, but I'm in the middle of a turbocharger project and don't want to add yet another variable until I'm ready to tune it for boost.

There is no point in tuning the stock engine. MY tunes are for the 34# injectors, retuned tranny if auto, and tons more timing. You can't really do much more with stock injectors.

I can EM the file if you know someone who can flash it.

yeah I really need to tune mine. My XTC de-cat downpipe threw a slow of codes and it just isnt running like it should b/c of that. Once I get all the codes taken care of via tuning and get my air/fuels up to par and whatnot, she'll be a champ on the track.

this is going to be a on-going tune as I mod the car. we are looking to get a basic good tune set until I mod the car. Also this allows paul to get the credits for the 2.4ss. Paul is going to be doing a lot of tuning for others. get in touch with him about it. we are planning on doing it this weekend, we will let u know about the outcome.

I'm meeting up w/ Doc (as well as a few other members such as CobaltBurst and Dervin3) at Pro Motion tuning in Fredericksburg on the 27th. He said if he can get some more dirt on the 2.4 between now and then, he may attempt to tune mine. Just a mild tune to get the most out of my mods and disabling the CEL's is all I want, and i'll be happy.

Bump.

I am tired of my CEL and I know it is from the damn intake.

Smells like its running rich as a failsafe for the lean code. I want a tune sooo f*ucking bad that could solve my problems. I don't want to disable all CEL, I want it to run right...

...I was thinking about getting a tune for an intake, cat back, and put on SS/SC injectors, mainly to make it easier on the car. Don't the stock ones on a stock set up run a high duty cycle anyway?

The Stock duty cycle I saw on SSFamily Wagons Car was 98% in second gear, I can't imagine higher gears. We got the IDC down to 76% Max at top of third (Automatic), with the SS/SC injectors.

The Lean code is a serious condition. Make sure that you are using only Premium fuel all the time, because if you don't it will set off the lean code as well. The Premium takes longer to burn, thus making the car less lean, and lower cylinder temps.
