Injen Install tips

My black Injen came in today. I won't be putting it on for a good two weeks cause I want to get some more base line 1/4 mile runs to better measure how the Injen improves my ET.

However, if you have installed one and have some tips, please share. I'll print out any to refer to when I do the install. I am doing the CAI BTW. Thank you

I have some tips.

GO SLOW!! You will scratch the HELL out of it if you don't.

Cover the bolt that rubs the tube. If not you will scratch the hell out of it even if you go slow.

Leave EVERYTHING loose until you get it all in there.

If the filter is going to rub the bumper try leaving the rubber BS off. Its the little rubber piece with a stud sticking out. You will know what I am talking about when you look at it. Also, use the new nut and washer on the stock stud sticking out on this part.....

Leave filter off until everything is in. If you don't it's too long to get in there easily.

Also do a search in the "how to" section of the forums. Look for Injen install. This way is much easier. In the directions that come with the kit it says remove the bumper. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS.

I just noticed this is going on a 2.4.... I have a SS/SC. If its different ignore everything I said.... Except the GO SLOW part....lol

Thank you for this write up. These comments are very true. For both Injen intakes.

1. I'd take off the passenger side wheel

2. loosen the entire passenegr side fender liner and passenger side lower splash guard

3. Loosen the fender liner but leave the bumper on. You don't have to take it off.

4. Remove the upper engine side stock intake box and tube UNPLUG your MAF from the stock receptacle

5. Remove the lower stock air box ( 2 screws) The bottom one is easy to get at its a 10mm socket or box end. The upper one is straight out of HELL. Good luck. Its a type of plastic expansion fastener and I eventually worked it loose.

6. Remove the lower airbox by sliding it down past the lower driving light. I pulled out slightly on the bumper cover which gave it enough room to shimmy past.

7. Then follow the directions for the install of the new Injen.

8. Hold the short ram section steady while screwing the screws for the MAF into the new intake. Don't try this with the intake in the car. Hold it bewteen your legs or get a buddy to hold it off the car while you mount the MAF. Carefull not to overtighten and strip the screws out.

9. Tighten down the TB side hose clamp but leave the rest loose as you fit the lower portion. Leave the filter as the last thing you put on.

10. Put the bolt for the bracket on the passenger side stock mounting point (in directions) use one washer above and one below the rubber grommet.

11. Slide the intake bracket into the grommet but still leave everything loose

12. Jump under the car and fit the filter and tighten it down.

13. Now go back and tighten everything down you might have to muscle and twist somethings to get it to line up right but it should all fit great.

14. LAST MOST IMPORTANT ITEM. TAKE SOME RUBBER VACCUM HOSE MATERIAL SPLIT IT SO YOU CAN AFFIX IT TO THE RADIATOR SUPPORT METAL RIGHT NEAR THE INTAKE WHERE IT TURNS DOWN INTO THE FENDER. THE SOFT MOTOR MOUNTS MOVE TO SUCH A DEGREE THAT THE INTAKE (INTAKE WITH CAI PORTION) WILL HIT THE FRONT UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT FRAME (RIGHT NEAR THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT) AND VENTILATE YOUR INTAKE AFTER AWHILE.

Have fun and enjoy the pissed off chain saw sounds it makes..

That's what she said

I had some slight fitment issues, but this was from the older batch of intakes. I did not use the rubber bushing that was supplied and it fit fine. Hopefully you won't have this issue though.

Also when you are finished and you close your hood, make sure that there is enough clearance so the lift bracket under the hood will not scratch the top of the intake tube.
