If it's raining hard just convert it to sri you won't suck up water unless it's halfway up the car. I've got cai but havn't had any problems thus far they just put that warning so you won't say they didn't warn you when you hydrolock your engine.

The aem bypass has some draw backs though. You have to cut your cai to get it to fit. And I have heard you loose some hp. Not much but any hp loss is almost unacceptable. Just dont drive htrough some huge ass puddles and you will be good.

Exclamation Water DOES mess up my intake

I recently bought an AEM CAI for my 05 SS. Rainy weather has been a problem for me and I have not gone through deep puddles. It seems as though the CAI gets no protection from the wheelwell and the MAF Air sensor is getting wet and messed up. I am not worried about hydrolock but these engines are controlled by computers! If the sensor messes up then your engine is going to run like SHIAT! So be careful in wet conditions.

I went with a HydroShield and its great. I drive through rainy weather all the time. The only thing that ever worries me, is there is an opening above the fog light in the bumper, i always wondered if any water would travel from teh road to the filter from that hole, but i havent checked lol, lazy.

Typically a CAI should be fine. If it got soaked (without sucking a butt load of water into the engine) it would severely impede airflow causing engine to bog down, but this would be a temporary condition.

Cool K&N SRI = No Problem in rain

I've had no problems with my K&N SRI, however I can see where a Cold Air Intake using the factory CAI tract could pull water.... thats why the factory "bong" has all those shapes and passages so that it can reduce the chance of water intake.

A SRI sets too high to suck in water unless the water is up to the headlights... see my install using the link in my sig..

My AEM acts up in the rain if I drive it a lot through the rain. It will sputter and cough kinda. That's b/c the dryflow filters have a tendency to sponge water moreso than a conventional filter does.

I need to get one of those Injen hydroshield pre-filters asap!

I'd love to have the K&N, but it won't fit properly with my Ingalls ETD, so my AEM stays.
