K and N CAI update

Yes, I know this is for the 2.2, but it does show that some progress is being made:
7/26/2006 -- K&N's New Typhoon Intake Produces 6+ HP for Chevy Cobalt
A year after its 2005 debut the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt 2.2 liter four-cylinder is one for the fastest small cars on the market. The engine is a 16-valve Ecotec four with twin counter-rotating balance shafts and electronic throttle control.
K&N's 69-4515TS Typhoon Air Intake SystemK&N Engineering has released a new 69-Series Typhoon Air Intake (69-4515TS) for the 2005, 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt 2.2 liter L4. K&N dynamometer test show a 6.6 horsepower gain @ 4750 RPM for this powder coated silver intake. “The power gain is exceptional for this engine,” said K&N Project Technician Nestor Cabrera. “We used a slightly larger than average filter (RU-5147) for this car to ensure that the engine would get all the air that it needs.”
This 69-Series Typhoon Air Intake (69-4515TS) uses the factory mass air flow sensor installed in the tube and a special radiused filter adapter with heat shield. “The radiused adapter helps provide smooth non-turbulent air flow into the intake tube,” said Cabrera. “The heat shield isolates the filter from the engine compartment keeping the air around it cooler.”
The design of this vehicle played a major role in the development of this 69-Series Kit. The throttle body placement required the development of a special 90 degree silicone hose with a very tight radius. “We designed this K&N Kit (69-4515TS) so the intake tube would follow the cars natural lines,” said Cabrera. “It places the air filter in the location of the stock air box.”
With all K&N 69-Series Typhoon Air Intakes there is a thorough development procedure which requires the use of multiple test vehicles. “We conducted a little more testing than usual on this particular Air Intake before reaching this design,” Cabrera said. “We were however, able to locate vehicles easily for this project.”

Question: I thought I read on this forum once that the entire air cleaner system is the same for the 2.2 and 2.4. If that's the case, why wouldn't this work for the 2.4? My friend's son drives a 2.2 coupe - I plan to get with him and do a compare with my 2.4 I'm willing to chance it if the dimensions are the same.

as far as i can tell they are the same (or at least the intake mani. is the same size). i know the injen fits the 2.2 and 2.4.. but i also know AEM has had there 2.2 CAI toss a CEL on the 2.4.
so that K&N could work but could also toss a CEL and from the way it looks it's not a true CAI but more of a SRI with a heat shield.

they will fit but lets say that 8 out of 10 will throw a cel it's worth the wait K&N i don't know how long it will be before production but the designer at AEM said about 3 weeks. Wait for the specific one see if you can call AEM try to get a hold of Andrew flores www. aflores@aempower.com see if he can give an approx date.

I don't know the code # but it is a lean code, just checked it is P0171 if told correct.
Also you can check around for days and you probabily will not find the intake for the 2.4 from any companies. like I said earlier its the vendors that sell the intakes. not the companies I called, checked the direct lines and no one is as close yet as AEM

K&N update 9/1
Here is the deal with K&N they used my car for a bit longer than they expected. Ryan the guy I dealt with there told me that it was a bit of a challenge but they ended up with gains but could not e-mail them to be because it has to do with R&D policy. no big deal to me. My car is an automatic and now they need a manual do checkout this intake. If you live in so.cal and are at least 21years old they will have a rental there if you need one, and they are from enterprise. I guess since this Intake took time they want to test it out on one more 2.4 but with manual. If you are interested e-mail <Ryanmy@knfilters.com and I'm sure he will get back to you pretty qiuck

out of all of these people reading this intake post from So.Cal there has to be someone that is either going to call K&N or has if you called post something the sooner we get a 2.4 w/manual the sooner there will be a real intake for the 2.4. Come on so many people say their interested in K&N products now what prove it
