Hey guys, I'm looking into grabbing a K&N Cold Air short ram intake system, and was just wondering how it stacks up against other cold air systems?

 

well thing is, its not a cold air system..its a short ram system..like you said..kinda?

CAI (Cold Air Intake) draws cold air from the wheel well/headlight

SRI (Short-Ram Intake) draw a mass amount of air from within the engine bay

KN only makes SRI for our cars, i personaly have it and love it, it delivers a loud sound and good gains

 

sounds pretty good, k&n uses the oil coating too right? any idea how good the GM intake is?

 

Get one from TurboTechRacing they are selling there Injen intakes and they are great

get the k&N SRI. its a great intake and is cheaper than the GMPP Intake.

 

are there other intakes that will give me better power output compared to the K&N? I don't really know a whole lot, I just know of K&N and have been told that they are really good.

 

its the only one specialy designed for our LE5 motors..thats what sold me on it

your not gonna see huge if any gains between differnet intake systems, they are all just piping and a filter

 

i got the k&n love the sound and my gas mileage went up....

 

thats good to know. thx for the info, I'm really looking forward to grabbing one and getting rid of what plastic i have left in the engine bay... im also looking forward to getting some more power, my buddy just got a 5.0L mustang, one of those light ass powerful gas guzzlin ones from the 80's, and when he took me out it left me longing for a bit more muscle in my 'balt.

 

your gonna need more than a intake to keep up with a 5.0

 

well i dont plan on keeping up with it, it just sparked my hunger for more power then i have already . another thought, the 2.4 kit for K&N is all black, what are your guys' thoughts on stripping the black coat and giving it a polished finish?

 

if you want polished buy the injen.

intake is intake.

 

does injen use an oil coat on the filter?

i believe it does. i just installed the injen on my car. great peace. but as was said intake is a intake. majority of the company's are good. especially with our car. now if you were looking for say a car thats popular for example Honda civic(not bashing Honda's). they have all kinds of company's that just throw stuff out there on the market. for the cobalt things seem to be produced with some more quality. only the bigger company's seem to be producing products for our cars.

nope. everyone is gonna tell you to get CAI but its a ****** intake. most people buy according to their price range. which is usually K&N or Injen becuase theyre about the same price. hell some people ****** rig a ebay intake and get the same performance as a 250bux intake

 

it's actually still on. I bought mine a few days ago and it's still up. it just says that. I don't know how much longer it will be up but if you can soon, get your hands on it because that's an awesome price.

its like coolbalt said its totally driver preference. i got mine cause i got a wicket deal on the site from a supporting vendor. and i loved the polished look.

 

autoanything.com is selling the k&n for 250 free shipping, when the time comes im probably gonna go K&N it just seems like the right choice to me... i feel it in my bones.

 

I heard the oil from the k&n filters gets into the MAF though, thats the one thing that sold me on my AEM SRI with dryflow filter. Couldnt tell you how much it is because I bought it used, but I love it.

 

from what ive heard you shouldnt get that problem... could be something wrong with the filter? or too much oil was put on?
