That would basically make an LAP motor lol and you would need to add in some connectors to your pcm for cam phasers and an exhaust cam position sensor

Don't forget that the le5 is a stronger motor than the l61.

That depends on which year you get and besides he didn't ask that. He asked if an LE5 head could be put on an L61 bottom end which I'm sure it could because that's how GM made the LAP. I agree if he is gonna have to do rewiring might as well upgrade the whole motor but I was just answering his original question

An 08 2.4 can still handle a bit more power than a 2.2 l61 and that is the weakest year. Couple of them are putting down in the 250whp range and are holding.

IDK about you, but around here you can get an L61 for around 350-500. and it owuld be a drop in and go. an LE5 would be a bit more work.

Not much more work. The hard part of my L61 to LE5 swap was adding the connectors which only took an hour or 2. If the OP wants to put the LE5 head on, I don't think its a bad idea.

the more i think about it the car came with the LE5 right? if so there is no real modification to do, as the cam position sensors are all there.

Yes their 4 cyl was the LE5 and in the later years where they switched to flex fuel it was the LEA or LE8 (one of those)

But there are differences. Such as the vvt.

But on topic an 06 LE5 is a much stronger motor than any year L61. And honestly why buy a motor you will have to swap parts from when you could just buy a complete LE5 pretty cheaply. Ive seen decent mile used LE5's as low as 300 bucks.

For that you get a stronger rotating assembly as well as the gen II block. Not to mention the cars rated power not a lower power level.
