That depends on which year you get and besides he didn't ask that. He asked if an LE5 head could be put on an L61 bottom end which I'm sure it could because that's how GM made the LAP. I agree if he is gonna have to do rewiring might as well upgrade the whole motor but I was just answering his original question

Not much more work. The hard part of my L61 to LE5 swap was adding the connectors which only took an hour or 2. If the OP wants to put the LE5 head on, I don't think its a bad idea.

But there are differences. Such as the vvt.
But on topic an 06 LE5 is a much stronger motor than any year L61. And honestly why buy a motor you will have to swap parts from when you could just buy a complete LE5 pretty cheaply. Ive seen decent mile used LE5's as low as 300 bucks.
For that you get a stronger rotating assembly as well as the gen II block. Not to mention the cars rated power not a lower power level.
