if you are making a stronger bottom end, no point to spend the $$$$ on a gen 2, gen 3 is superior in everyway

don't mind the gen2 portion of the comment. i think what he's saying is if it's already got the guard, and that's proven itself 700+whp many times. along with ryans 900. why do the sleeves?

It's a valid question. but i think when i do my next 2.1 i'll still do these sleeves. for the cost it's more than worth it for the extra piece of mind.

And I already have the gen2 zzp girdled short block, bought 3 months before they discontinued it. I would do the sleeves with new pistons, all zzp had at the time was 8.8cr and they suck fuel like greedy pigs. I'd go back to 10.4 cr and have the piston to bore clearance custom honed ...which I doubt zzp does with the stock sleeves.

Just a thought for next season.

Zzp never gets there bores perfictly round. They buy pistons 0.002 over size to get it close. Its kinda a halfass way to do it if u ask me.

exactly, and because this is my first and last hot rod I will pay the price and finish it to proper machined tolerances.

Barring a crash I plan on having this as a toy for years to come.

This was my block. It is a Gen 2 LE5 and I bought it in January of last year from ZZP, before they introduced the Gen 3. The cylinders were fine and round, but after about 3000 miles the compression test showed low numbers. After taking it apart, it was discovered that the piston-to-cylinder wall clearance had become excessively worn, likely due to my improper honing of the cylinders (since I am an amateur and not a pro shop). It was decided to replace the sleeves instead of pistons as the sleeves were far cheaper.

On a good note, the aftermarket sleeves from mrbelvedere, while being significantly stronger, are actually cheaper than GM OEM replacement sleeves.

Now I have an even stronger block, and peace of mind.

even with the block guard/girdle the stock sleeve will still flex from pressure these wont and you will also have better ring control/sealing from the loss of flex

And from my understanding MRB's sleeves have a slightly tighter fit alowing the sleeve and block to work together to support each other.
