Mallet cars already does something like this with the Solstice GXP and the Sky Redline. I know it's not fwd but they are swapping out the same engine as the cobalt ss/tc

Yea, project gobalt is in the process of swapping a GTO drivetrain into his cobalt, and so far it seems like a success. Just waitin for it to start having issues though

2007 impala SS 5.3L engine mated to a 4t65. I don't think it would fit in out engine bay without major modification and would be a stupid swap.

It should fit fine as long as you keep it FWD.

Back in the day a guy swapped a Northstar V8 into his Cavalier, and that motor is huge compared to a LS due to having dual overhead cams on both banks.

IIRC the Delta bay is a bit tighter than a J-Body, but its still doable. Having a fully boxed subframe in the delta should make the engine mounts not to bad either, bolt that up to a beefed up 4T65 and your in business.

Also, IIRC all the J-Body and Delta body GM drag cars run 4T65 transmissions, so getting axles and what not shouldn't be an issue either if your pockets are deep enough.
