Looking for some general advice

Hello there,

I'm just looking for some general advice on where to go with my cobalt. I had a Saturn Ion with the 2.4 so i have some experience with the vehicles. Im really debating whether to stay n/a or to go f/i.

These are my options that i have come up for myself.

To stay n/a:
K&N typhoon intake
ZZP midlength header and downpipe
Gmpp exhaust 'sport' (had it on the saturn really liked it)
hptuners
Others?

Turbo:
Garrett turbo kit with custom tune and then all the extras added on after

I dont want to piece together my own kit, just not up to it.
Obviously warrenty is not a huge issue on my mind but i would like it to be reliable.

Open to suggestions and of course people hating on my ideas

if you really want power, obviously go turbo. But if you want to just have fun and say "Eff f/i" and stay n/a like me, go the n/a route. It is kinda fun making your car go as fast as a stock ss/sc without the f/i. Yeah it costs money, but you are using all motor.

it always comes down to what you want. Maybe you will say, "Eff Johny" and do your own thing. Have fun!

After seeing the videos of the JBP Vortex header, I would suggest it to everyone. Now that I know it is compatible with our cars, I'm definately getting it on the sound alone.

you could also do cams, injecters, intake manifold, stuff along those lines if you want to stay n/a

cams, headers, downpipe, exhuast, CAI, a good tune. with all that you should be over 200whp. Theres people close to 190whp with intake, header, exhuast and tunes. Cams should put you over the 200 range im thinkin

thats the route i want to go, as i think a turbo will just cause to many headaches that i will not be able to handle. I may even put a 50 or 75 shot on top of that, but it would be one of the last things i do. What i really need is a list of parts that i should get (i kno it seems like i want things handed to me) if i dont have a complete list i will be all over the place.

For a CAI i already have the k&n and i think im sticking with it

For a cat back i would like another gmpp because i really liked my first one

Header, i like the jbd, but would be open to thinking of others.

Tune would be hp tuners

What should i look at for cams, header and downpipe?

I was just thinking that before. It's about all pure engine power. Eff f/i. IMO using f/i is like cheating. It's like using nitro. You hit a button and boom extra 50 horses.

I'd love to go with boost, but the funds aren't there. I'm having plenty of fun with my car with my current set-up. I don't need 500hp in a Cobalt.

Cams would be pretty sweet. There was one member claiming 224 ish HP with his JBP cams that he bought. Then maybe a F/I application later on if you decide you want more power.

Honestly, if I was gonna go through the hassle of messing around with my internals, I wouldn't be modifying a Cobalt.. haha That's what I like about the 2.4.. You can make it a very fun and reliable daily driver with good MPG with only a few mods..

I know what you are saying but I only thought about it because I want a project and a cobalt would be cheaper (since I already have the car). I don't think my ford ranger would be a good project Except maybe a lift for a muddin truck or for driving thru the woods

haha Indeed. I'm just having fun with my Cobalt now, but then in a few years getting a used BMW 3 coupe or a used Saab 9-3 turbo.. Something sick even without mods.. lol.

Turbo has been reliable enough for me, its my daily driver too so it has to be. Been turboed for the last 20,000 miles
